Harold Hayward

Harold (Hal) Hayward, age 87, died on May 19, 2014 at his home in Plymouth, MA. He was the husband of the late Mary (Murphy) Hayward. Father of, Carol Ann Starvish of E. Windsor, CT, Richard Hayward of Titusville, FL , Ellen Messina of N. Andover, MA, Barbara Hayward of Rockledge, FL, Harold Hayward, Jr. of Herndon, VA, Douglas Hayward of Plymouth, MA and the late Kathleen Hirschy and Ginger Hayward. He was also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A World War II veteran serving in the US Coast Guard both in the South Pacific and Europe. He was a proud recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, European African Middle-Eastern Campaign Medal, American Theatre Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal. After his decorated service to his country, Mr. Hayward continued his patriotic duty working many years for Raytheon Waltham and also Sylvania Needham in production control. He retired in 1987 from the US Postal Service as a letter carrier. He was a member of the American Legion Post 40, and a lifetime member of the NALC, Branch 34 NAFE. Hal will always be remembered for his devotion and dedication to his loving wife and family. Visitation will take place in the Cartmell Funeral Home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter's Church, 84 Court St., Plymouth at 12:00 noon. Interment will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
