Dear Joy and family,
We have lost one of our own. I´m one more friend to say what a amazing person he was.
I can think of many superlatives, but the finest thing a person can be known for is integrity.
All his classmates and friends will sorely miss him.

We lost a wonderful friend.
It is hard to find words that express our feelings.
Harold Kurtz did not just bring Odyssey oft he Mind to Germany.
He brought a spirit of creativity and friendship.
Harold was a true mentor to me,
a dear friend to our family,
an inspiring Member of the Board of COU,
a fun person with such a big heart,
a smart teacher in the best sense of the word.
We will miss him so much.
But he has left traces in our hearts
that no water can wash away.

What a wonderful man- always full of great ideas and positive positions on life. I recall he came into my Pennsauken kindergarten class to read to the students with "Harold and the Purple Crayon" book.. When he left all the kids were yelling " Good bye Harold!" Our last conversation was jumping waves in the ocean at Mary Schecter's 1st day of school party and he had great advise for me. We were talking about travel and my upcoming trip to Portugal and which flights to take, and he was telling me his love of Portugal. He spread out his arms while we were bouncing over the waves and said " Life if this long- and we are over here with this much left- so just spend the money and do the things you love- take the direct flight!!! That bit of money won't matter, but the time will".He loved his family, education, and took a great interest in travel, life and learning. He will be missed- but he left a great mark in the many lives that he touched. My condolences to Joy and the family!

I had the pleasure and honor to come to know Harold through Odyssey of the Mind. To me He embodied and personified traits and virtues which the program He so greatly contributed to aims to teach. He was inquisitive and ingenious, goal- and process-oriented at the same time, principled and honest, friendly and open, energetic and positive. Such a great role model not only for His children, children-in-law and grandchildren, but also for so many young people from around the world whose lives He has touched - even if sometimes they might not even be aware of the fact. OMazing Person who will be truly missed. Most sincere condolences to His entire Family, and especially heartful hugs to Joy. Thank you for everything, Harold. Rest in Peace.

My heart is broken! Dr. Kurtz was a true educator who loved listening and helping in every way that he could. I met Dr.Kurtz in Pennsauken and he was such a friend. He shared curriculum ideas and introduced our district to Odyssey of the Mind. Our children enjoyed a new way of thinking. I will never forget his kindness and good nature. He made you feel like a friend forever. My prayers to the family.

Harold made our world a better place in so many ways. His name became one of the few that was always mentioned, "Harold was here, there, everywhere"...always underscoring that something good was happening.
His achievements will live in countless ways, as students and colleagues make their contributions to the world.

I have the privilege to know Harold through my involvement in the Odyssey of the Mind problem-solving competition. I first met him when I coached an odyssey team in 2009. Harold was the Head Judge from whom coaches had to collect scores. I was touched by the personalised, genuine and meaningful feedback and encouraging words he had for the team. To this day, I remain grateful for him taking the time to observe so much in one of the many performances he had watched that morning. When I became an official years later, I kept this good practice I picked up from him to motivate teams and coaches the same way Harold's words had impacted me. I got to know Harold better volunteering on the same judging panel for 7 World Finals from 2013 to 2019. Harold was a generous, tolerant and nurturing man. My heart goes to his family in these difficult times.

I first met Harold when he, his brother Alan,Bob Rubin and my brother Willie Miller were singing in the choir at Temple Israel of Wynnfield. I was 11 or 12. That would make him 16.
I had a rough time in Jr and Senior High School. I did not feel like I belonged. Harold was always there for me making me feel better. I do not think I would have made it with out him. He kept me out of trouble. and made me feel positive about myself. He will always be
in my heart.

Carol and I will miss Harold's overt concern for the well-being and comfort of those around him. As a high school fraternity brother, his leadership and affability served as a role model for the rest of us. His friendship and loyalty continued for over 60 years beyond high school as he was the force that kept us bound as brothers through the decades, and it spread to the countless others he has influenced through the decades.

I am so saddened to hear of Dr. Kurtz´s passing. He hired me when he was the Superintendent of Clayton School District back in 1986. I had the pleasure of working with him again in Pennsauken. He always was a people person and he was always put student needs high up on the priority list. He made a great impact on my life. I am a much better educator because of him. My thoughts are with your family.

Dr Kurtz will be missed. I was on the faculty at Pennsauken High School as a counselor. We both loved music and he supported my opportunity to sing in Italy. It gave me a chance to move forward with my singing and to continue working as a counselor. His kindness and love and appreciation for the variety in life made him a special person. He will be missed but remembered fondly. My sincere condolences to the family.

Deepest sympathy from your "wall-mates" in Fort Myers. Harold contributed so much to the music scene down there. And who else can mix the punch for the orchestra receptions?
