Harold Lewis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 3, 2011.
Harold Evans Lewis, the youngest of four children, was born in Macon, Georgia on November 8, 1950, to Gertrude and Isaiah Lewis. He grew up in Detroit, MI.

Harold served in the United States Army from 1973 to 1999 and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3. After retiring from the Service, he worked for a while in the civilian work force but soon made the decision to fully retire.

Harold had a passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles and old cars. He spent several years fully restoring his 1980 Corvette and enjoyed showing it off. He was a member of the Mid Texas Corvette Club. He also resumed his hobby of flying remote control airplanes and was a member of the Cen-Tex Modelers Club.

In September 2008, Harold and several other motorcycle enthusiasts formed the Chrome Cruzer Motorcycle Club where he served as President. The Chrome Cruzers soon became his "second family." He took a lot of pride in the Club and serving as their President.

Harold had a strong personality and presence. He was also a strong family man and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. The joy of his life was his three year old grandson, Braylon. He loved to spend time with him and took him with him everywhere. Everyone knew Harold's "little buddy" Braylon. Harold touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Charles Lewis of Detroit, Michigan.

He leaves behind his wife Margo, daughters Ashley (Reeve) and Stephanie and grandson, Braylon. A brother, James (Maxine) Lewis, of Birmingham, AL and a sister, Barbara (Dan) Jones, of McCormick, SC, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The Lewis family will receive guest for a time of visitation Wednesday November 9, 2011 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen Thursday November 10, 2011 at 11:30 AM. Burial will full Military honors will follow the Funeral services in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

"He Rolls on toward the west; bright orange setting sun guiding his way to rest. The sun forever shines on his smiling face. I know this friend of ours is speeding to a better place.
On wings of rolling thunder no state trooper to see. He rolls up to heaven; He rolls on free."

The first time I met Harold it was with his open arms and welcome hand. Harold enjoyed seeing others do well and complimenting them in their progress. For the short time I knew Harold, there was no doubt that he was a friend for life. During this time of grief of his family and loved ones, I would like to share my condolences and say that I will truly miss that friendly smile and the welcoming heart Harold always displayed. "God Bess and rest in peace."
