HAROLD MASSEY Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 18, 2013.
Harold Massey was born on August 7, 1927 in Competition, MO. His family moved to Kansas City in 1931 and Harold has been a lifelong resident. He graduated from the Missouri School for the Blind in 1948 and married Ernie Cooper Massey on October 10, 1957. Harold came to know Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in April, 1952, and served Him faithfully until his death. He has been an associate pastor at the Kansas City Baptist Temple (Graceway) since April 1, 1964. Harold had the oversight of the Hospital Ministry, the Shut-In Ministry, Visitation Ministry, Follow-Up Ministry and Premarriage Counseling. Harold's ministry spanned the tenure of all three of the church's pastors: Wendell Zimmerman, Truman Dollar and Jeff Adams. Harold was an accomplished musician since his teenage years. He became a fan of Mother Maybelle Carter and developed a passion for Bluegrass music. He performed on radio, television and in many churches and shows. There were three things that Harold loved in this world: his Lord Jesus Christ, his wife, Ernie and his guitar! Harold passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 16, 2013. He was preceded in death by his father, Everett Massey, his mother, Gladys Massey and his wife, Ernestine 'Ernie' Massey. Funeral service for Harold will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Graceway Church, 5460 Blue Ridge Cutoff, Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Brooking Cemetery in Raytown, MO. Contributions in memory of Harold may be made to Graceway Church Arrangements entrusted to Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Reverend Harold Massey touched so many lives including mine. He continues to work for God in Heaven only now he can see in full color. Harold introduced me to a Christian way of life when I was a youngster. I'm forever indebted to him for showing me the love of Christ and ultimately making me a believer. RIP my loving friend! Until we meet again. I will never forget you!

Harold was my mentor. He rarely missed calling me on my birthday...and we talked on the phone at least once a year. Having know him since I was ten, he was always considered my friend for life. He will be sadly missed, but sharing our faith gives me peace.

I dont think anyone could have went to the K C Baptist Temple under Wendall or Truman and not known Harold and Earnie. My Parents came from Springfield in the late 40's and My Father Passed in 1955 aand Harold and Earnie were always there for Mom and always helping. I grew up in the Temple and I was Blessed to talk to him late last year and it was the same Harold Massey. God has told him Well Done my Son and he more than earned his wings...Harold Play and sing with the rest and show them how it is done.

Harold and Ernie Massey are among our fondest memories. We started attending the Kansas Cit Baptist Temple in the mid-60s and were privileged to have been in Harold's Sunday School class. Playing the piano for the Sunday School class was a great reward. Harold, even though it has been a number of years since we had seen you, you have always been dear to us. You will be missed!
