Vaughn Dee Myers

Vaughn Dee Myers passed away at his home in Quartzsite, Ariz., on July 17, 2017, at the age of 86. He was born in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., on Oct. 14, 1930. Vaughn was in the U.S. Air Force from 1948-1952. He was a Life Time Mason and had been an active member of the Elks and the Toastmasters. Vaughn was a mechanic by trade, working mostly in Washington and Alaska.
Vaughn spent many years working on the trans-Alaska oil pipeline and the North Slope. Vaughn and Leta had their own business, "M-2 Engine and Gear," in Soldotna, Alaska, for a few years before moving to Quartzsite, Ariz., in 1993.
Vaughn had many friends and loved ones to tell his jokes and stories to. He volunteered at the Salvation Army; he helped anyone and everyone at any time. When meeting new people, Vaughn's favorite greetings were: "Hello, my name is Vaughn Myers and I'm a hell of a nice guy," or "It was a pleasure for you to meet me."
Vaughn had three sisters, Beulah Stumpe, Trula Gorrie, Fayette Basel; and one brother, Troy Myers. He had three children, Curtis, Doretta and Clinton; and two stepsons, Ron and Randy Wilson.
Vaughn is survived by his wife of 41 years, Leta Myers; five children; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.
Vaughn is preceded in death by his father, John A. Myers; mother, Flora I. Starkey; and sister, Buelah Stumpe.
At Vaughn's request, no services were held. There will be a memorial held for Vaughn on his 87th birthday, Oct. 14, 2017, at the Salvation Army in Quartzsite, Ariz.
