Harold Sampe Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 6, 2018.
Harold Francis Sampe caring, loving husband, devoted father and loyal friend lost his courageous battle to Leukemia on July 4, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital.

Harold was the second of three sons born on June 25, 1934 to Arnold and Julia Sampe of Paul, Idaho. Harold spent his youth in Paul, Idaho where he had perfect attendance throughout elementary and high school. He was active in football, basketball and baseball. He graduated from Paul High School in 1952. He then attended Idaho State University's School of Technology. He married the love of his life Bonnie Hammer on June 27, 1954. They were married 64 years! They raised two daughters, Terri Sampe-Johnston (Scott) Sparks, Nevada and Lori Barker (Doug) of Boise, Idaho.

He and his new bride moved to Kansas where he worked for a local newspaper. From Kansas Sampe would move to Tremonton, Utah working for a local paper. He walked into the Times News in 1956 where he worked for 54 years. He started as a printer, assembling pages of lead type line by line and building ads. Later years this was all computerized.

Harold loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. Many family vacations took place at Redfish Lake. Harold's favorite passion was golf and could often be seen at Twin Falls Muni Golf Course enjoying a round or two of golf and scrounging for balls.

Through the years Harold and Bonnie visited many exciting destinations from Hawaii to Europe and across the United States.

Throughout his life Harold felt it was the right thing to do to help others. At one time Harold was the number one blood donor in the state donating about 28 gallons of blood!

He was an active member in the First United Methodist Church always willing to help or lend a loving hand. Harold was friendly, loved talking to people and had GOBS of friends! He never knew a stranger!

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Julia Sampe and many aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife Bonnie; their two daughters Terri and Lori; two brothers Ronnie Sampe (Carol) of Paul, Idaho and Arnie Sampe of Sacramento, California; grandson Alex Doerr ( Sarah) of Sparks, Nevada and three great grandsons Jackson, Grayson and Harrison.

The family is especially grateful to Harold's caregivers at MSTI, nurses and staff and Hospice at St. Luke's Magic Valley Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the First United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Association.

A celebration of Harold's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, 360 Shoshone Street East, Twin Falls with Pastor Buddy Gharring officiating.

Services are under the direction of White Mortuary, Chapel by the Park, Twin Falls.
