Modesto, California - Harold Jerome Santos passed away at the age of 95 peacefully with family by his side on Sunday, July 24, 2022. Harold Santos was born on December 1,1926 in Modesto, California to Francis and Ann Santos of Hughson, CA. He graduated from Tulare Union High School. He attended Modesto Junior College excelling in sports. He joined the US Navy. He attended the University of Southern California in 1947 and graduated in 1950 from the USC Pharmacology School. Harold met a local Patterson, CA girl, Margaret Brainard, they were married in 1949. He bought South Modesto Rexall Drugs store on Crowslanding Road. He and Margaret settled in Modesto and raised 4 children. Harold served as President of the Modesto 20/30 club, Rotary Club, Modesto Gun Club, and the California Pharmacy Association. Harold loved hunting and fishing. He and Margaret enjoyed dancing, fishing, traveling, golfing, camping. Harold and Margaret belonged to the Modesto Travelers club for 25 years traveling to near and far destinations around the world. They were members of Del Rio country club for 50 years. He is survived by his daughters Cheryl Greenwood of West Point, CA., Loretta Penoli of Las Vegas, NV, his son Kevin Santos of Modesto, CA. His grandson Adam Williamson of Ripon, CA. his granddaughter April Kirk of Missoula, MT and Bill Santos of Missouri, three great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Harold had a great sense of humor and was a kind and compassionate man. He will truly be missed.

I worked for Harold at South Modesto Drug Store, starting around 1967 to 1969 and again in 1976. I began while in high school. His friendly demeanor and compassion for all people was what attracted my appreciation of him. He was a great influence for me to become a pharmacist too. I owe him for all of his friendship and support including hiring me for a summer internship. He is one of the few remarkable people in my life that I will always fondly remember. Rest well, my friend.

Harold was my husband, Dennis´, hunting partner at the Modesto Gun Club. It seemed like they were always very happy, especially after a great day of duck hunting, and enjoyed each other´s company. Harold, being my fellow Trojan from USC, and Margaret accompanied us to the National Championship in Miami in 2005. We all had a great time and made wonderful memories. He and Margaret are missed. My condolences to his family.

It was a sad day and the loss of such a wonderful person. Harold was a caring and compassionate man. His family and friends will miss him dearly. He was such a giving person. We had crossed paths in our lifetime, and there are moments I will never forget. That cigar he always smoked will stick in my head forever, while he sat under the Moosehead in his home. He will forever be missed. God Bless his family during these trying times.
