I first met Mr Smith when I joined ITW in 1975 along with Bob Tuttle and Si Cathcart. He was most gracious and welcoming. This is a sad loss........Laurie Hearn, England.

Stephanie, Carrie, Polly and Emily, I and the rest of the Horne family share in the grief of the loss of your father. Harold was a larger-than-life figure, and as you know best friends with my dad, Peter Horne, from age 3 through my dad's passing four years ago at age 85 (10/25/2018). Harold spoke at dad's memorial service, recounting their Barrington childhoods, Cheley summer camp experiences, Choate, Princeton and Coleman Lake memories, as well as groomsmen duties in each other's weddings. Born a week apart (dad was born April 1, 1933), they were like brothers from different mothers, with a life-long mutual admiration for each other. Hopefully they both have fly rods with them. In addition to their relationship, our mothers were also very close, and good friends.

I was an employee of Northern Trust for 40 years and planned meetings and events for client groups and the Board. Mr. Smith was always gracious and friendly to everyone and he will be missed by all of us who had the privilege to know him. Linda Kleim
