ELLERTON, Harriet Carman (Redford)
February 25, 1921 - August 24, 2012
Carman passed away at Evergreen House in North Vancouver after a long and successful life. Carman was born in Winnipeg and grew up in a number of Saskatchewan towns, where her father served as a station or freight agent for the CNR. She met John Ellerton in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and they were married on October 20, 1944. They subsequently lived in Saskatoon, Calgary and for the last 43 years of her life in West Vancouver. Carman was a housewife and volunteer; and worked at a number of jobs in Vancouver. The one she enjoyed the most was the years she spent working at and eventually managing, Picadilly Place in the Westin Bayshore. There she made a number of friends among the staff and the artists whose works and goods she offered in the store. Carman was especially interested in Inuit art becoming somewhat of a connoisseur and expert. Carman was predeceased by her husband John in 1989; parents Allan and Grace Redford; and brothers Gordon and Leslie. She is survived by her son John Ellerton MD, CM of Las Vegas. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family appreciates the many people who were so kind to Carman over the years. Thanks are also extended to the staff at Evergreen House who helped make Carman's last few months comfortable. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon. A graveside service will be held at a future date.
