Harris C. Jack died at his home in Edgington, Ill., on Monday, September 4, 2006. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Edgington Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Paul Ausherman and Rev. Duane Jack officiating. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan, Ill., with a short memorial service following the visitation, with Rev. Kevin Jennings officiating. For those attending the funeral, an 11:30 a.m. luncheon will be provided at the church. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Edgington Presbyterian Church or to Christian Friendliness, Moline.
Harris was born October 4, 1914, in East Moline, Ill., the son of Ernest A. and Mavorite (Rice) Jack. He grew up in LaSalle, Ill., graduating from the LaSalle-Peru High School. He worked for a short time at the Apollo Metal Works in LaSalle. He came back to East Moline in 1935 to work for John Deere Harvester, retiring in 1973 after working 38 years.
Harris married Florence Pierzchalski in LaSalle on April 30, 1938. She died September 24, 1968. He then married Janet McQuady Wilson on June 5, 1971, in Edgington, where they made their home until his death.
He was a member of Edgington Presbyterian Church, previously a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. He was active in the Knights of Columbus for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; children and spouses, Carol (Richard) Harrison, Bettendorf, Rev. Duane Jack, Colona, Ill., and Richard (Marlo) Jack, Ely, Iowa; stepchildren, David Wilson and Keith (Debra) Wilson, all of Taylor Ridge; grandchildren, Joseph Jack and Julie Jack, both of Mexico, Jamon (Mary) Jack, New Palestine, Ind., Michael (Laura) Harrison, Bettendorf, Kathleen (Craig) Byram, Austin, Minn., Thomas (Andrea) Harrison, Wichita, Kan., Lori (Greg) Oertel, Germantown, Wis., Wendy (James) Bond, East Moline, and Brent Wilson and Kimberly Wilson, both of Chicago; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ralph Jack, San Diego, Calif., and Ernest (Hazel) Jack and Harvey (Marvetia) Jack , all of Silvis; and many nieces and nephews and families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Lanore Adams and Florence Timper, and son-in-law, Richard Harrison.
