Harrison Rivera-Terreaux

Creative, Collaborator, Mentor, Friend

May 5, 1943 - July 22, 2025

Harrison Rivera-Terreaux age 82, passed away on July 22, 2025, in New York City. It was an unexpected and tragic loss. He died from injuries, sustained in a fall. Born in Puerto Rico, he brought his rich cultural roots and boundless creativity to everything he touched.

A true original, Harrison was a man of many talents. Whether he was replicating a designer dress with astonishing precision, designing a piece of furniture, or reimagining an entire space, his vision and skill were unmistakable. He didn't just create-he inspired. His quick, witty sense of humor and kind, humble nature made him a joy to be around and a guiding light to those fortunate enough to work with him.

Harrison's influence reached far and wide. He left his indelible mark on the fashion world through collaborations with visionary designer Willie Smith, in the art world through his friendship and support of Keith Haring, and on the landscape of public art through work with Christo and Jeanne-Claude. He also made beauty bloom in more personal spaces-with flowers, furniture, or simply the energy he brought when sitting next to you on an airplane.

He was a nurturer of talent, someone who used his own gifts to help others shine brighter. Though predeceased by his parents, Harrison leaves behind a wide circle of friends, as well as countless memories and lasting impressions of his artistry and generosity.

True to his spirit and honoring his wish to be "recycled," he will be laid to rest at sea, becoming part of the earth he cherished.

Donations in his memory may be made to The Center- https://gaycenter.org., an organization that reflects his lifelong passion for creativity, inclusion, and support of the arts. We honor his memory by carrying forward the love and joy he shared.
