BOOTH _ Harry 1921 - 2005 Mr. Harry Booth, beloved husband of Marion Booth of Calgary, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2005 at the age of 84 years. Harry was born in Winnipeg, MB on January 9, 1921 and attended school there. He served as an Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force (attached to the R.A.F.) in the United Kingdom, India, Burma, and Ceylon during the Second World War before continuing his education at the University of Manitoba. Upon completion of those studies he was admitted to membership in the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba in 1951. From 1954 to 1969 Harry was with Pembina Pipe Line Ltd. of Calgary, initially as Controller and subsequently as General Manager and as President from 1965. In October 1969 Harry left Pembina to join Alberta and Southern Gas Co. Ltd. and Alberta Natural Gas Company Ltd., initially as President of Alberta and Southern and Vice-President and General Manager of Alberta Natural. In 1970 he became President and Chief Executive Officer of both companies until 1983 when he became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. He retired from those offices in April 1986 and continued as Chairman of the Executive Committee of Alberta Natural until he retired from active business. Harry also served on the Boards of Directors of Alberta and Southern Gas Co. Ltd., Alberta Natural Gas Co. Ltd., ANGUS Chemical Company, SUNCOR Inc., the Bank of British Columbia, Foothills Pipe Lines (South B.C.), Irvco Resources Inc., Pacific Gas Transmission Company and SOQUIP (Alberta) Inc. Harry served for many years as a Governor of the Canadian Petroleum Association and as a Director of the Independent Petroleum Association of Canada, The Canadian Gas Association, and the Canadian National Committee of the World Energy Congress. He is a past President of IPAC, a past Chairman of the Pipeline Division of CPA, and a past Chairman of CANWEC. He was also a former Director of The Council for Canadian Unity and the John G. Diefenbaker Memorial Society. Harry was a past President of the Calgary Petroleum Club, and a member of the Ranchmen's Club, the Calgary Golf and Country Club, the Glencoe Club, the Glencoe Golf and Country Club, and of the Burma Star Association. After his retirement, Harry and Marion enjoyed many happy years in Carmel, CA, at Panorama, BC, and all over the world travelling, golfing, and skiing. Harry also enjoyed being close to his children and grandchildren at home in Calgary. Besides his loving wife Marion and his sister Nell Bruzell of Winnipeg, MB, Harry leaves three children, Bob (Kathie) Booth, Pam (Sandy) Irving, and Geoff (Tracy) Booth, and their mother Irene; three stepchildren, Susan (Neill) Cumberbirch, Kathy (Ron) Koper, and Jeffrey (Margaret) Scobie. Harry also had thirteen grandchildren, Tom, Jeff, Tyler, Kate, Heather, Dan, Angie, Shannon, Alison, Nick, Donald, Carolyn, and Susan. Harry was predeceased by his brothers, Tom and Art; and his sister Lucy. A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 - 8 Street S.W.) on Thursday, March 10, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
