Raleigh

Harry Eberly, 93, peacefully went to be with the Lord on February 21, 2018. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who displayed selfless commitment to improving the lives of others.

He was born in Hessdale, PA to Chester Landis and Nola Marie (Clark) Eberly. During his childhood in the Pennsylvania farmland he developed a strong work ethic and deep sense of decency. He attended a single room schoolhouse thru 8th grade and went on to earn a BS in Chemical Engineering from Penn State University. He began his career as an engineer at Western Electric and then went to RCA where he held positions of increasing responsibility in management. In 1972 he joined Telex Corporation where he rose to lead worldwide research and development, manufacturing, and sales as executive VP. Restless after "retirement," he worked with many corporations to effect business improvement. During this time, he was recognized by the province of Alberta, Canada for his leadership in the restructuring and divestiture of Novatel Communications.

Harry had a passion for community service and for education. After moving to Raleigh, Harry served on many councils and boards including those of Penn State, Meredith College, NCSU, Wake Tech, Barton College, Raleigh Little Theater, Occoneechee Council-BSA, Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Wake County, and NC Triangle East, among others. Harry received the Charles Luton Volunteer Award and Distinguished Alumnus of The Pennsylvania State University (2008), his beloved Nittany Lions, in recognition of his lifelong and outstanding community involvement.

Harry was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by both his family and the many people whose lives he touched. He was blessed with abundant energy and a positive attitude. He used those blessings well in living each day to its fullest, caring deeply for others, and keeping God at the center.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marion; daughter, Jenny Holmes and husband, Mike of Campobello, SC; daughter, Susan Patrick and husband, Mark of Chapel Hill, NC; 4 grandsons, Matthew Holmes and wife Brooke, William Patrick, Andrew Patrick, and Nathan Holmes; and 2 great grandsons. All will "carry on," walking in the values exemplified by Harry's life.

A celebration of Harry's life will be held at Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh, NC on Sunday, February 25 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests donations to the Edenton Street United Methodist Church, Raleigh, NC or Bible Study Fellowship International. Arrangements by Brown-Wynne, 300 St. Mary's Street, Raleigh. Condolences at Brown-Wynne.com

A great person who will be remembered and missed by so many, many who were blessed to work for, know or meet him. Prayers for family and close friends in this time of great loss.

My heart felt sympathy to Marion and the entire Eberly family. Mr. Eberly, who always wanted me to call him Harry, was an avid supporter of Penn State and the local Triangle Penn State Chapter. His time and financial support began in the early 80's and continued till the Lord called him home. I was honored to have know him and Marion over the many years he and I supported our alma mater.

Walter and I are saddened, but feel enriched to have known Harry. Personally, he was my boss, my mentor, my friend. He was one-of-a-kind.
