Harry Richard Harrington, age 79, passed away on January 26, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Born on February 28, 1945, in Indianapolis, Harry was the youngest child of Harry Edward and Mary Venus (Hendrick) Harrington. He graduated from George Washington High School in 1963 and embarked on a dedicated career as an ironworker with Ironworkers Local 22. Over the years, he worked with Industrial Steel Erectors, SK Steel, and Sanjo Steel. Known for his early starts and meticulous preparation, Harry took immense pride in his craft. Among his many projects across the state, he was particularly proud of the structural and ornamental steel work he completed as part of a two-man crew at Union Station in 1988.

In 1979, with his three children involved in little league baseball, Harry devoted himself to Indiana Central Little League. He spent countless hours maintaining fields, building dugouts, coaching teams, and serving on the board of directors throughout the 1980s. His contributions left a lasting impact on the league and the many children and families who benefited from his dedication.

After retiring from ironworking, Harry found joy as a groundskeeper at Britton Golf Course in Fishers, Indiana. He cherished this role and the camaraderie it brought.

Harry's life revolved around his family. As a father and grandfather ("Papaw") to nine grandchildren, he made every effort to attend their events and support them wholeheartedly. Known for his abundant hugs, quick wit, love of doo-wop music, and skill at euchre, Harry brought joy to those around him.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sharon Kay (née Vinson) Harrington; son Richard Harrington; daughters Natalie (Darren) Henderson and Suzanne (Aaron) Casteel; grandchildren Alex Henderson, Samuel Henderson, Zackary Harrington, Summer Harrington, Kale Harrington, Vinson Casteel, Harry Casteel, Calvin Casteel, and Dylan Harrington; sister Marilyn (James) Christensen; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Sandy Rinck.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 15th at Newcomer Funeral Home, 925 E Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46227. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with a memorial service following at 1:00 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to Indiana Central Little League via Venmo @indianacentrallittleleague or by mail to ICLL, PO Box 17757, Indianapolis IN 46217. Donations may also be made to Franciscan Health Foundation at https://www.franciscanhealthfoundation.org/ways-give.

To the Harrington family. My heart goes out to your family at this time. Richard was such a great person. Our families met at ICLL many years ago,and our daughters, Suzanne and Christine were on the same team. Have such great memories of all the shinagins those girls did. Kay may God watch over you and yours at this time.
