Family-Placed Obituary

Leeward Funeral Home HARRY HAILANI KEALOHA, JR. April 22, 1939 - April 15, 2008 Loving husband, father, brother and uncle, passed peacefully after a brief illness on April 15, 2008. He was born April 22, 1939, to Gladys and Harry Kealoha in Honolulu, Hawaii. He spent most of his childhood on Oahu and Molokai, joined the U.S. Navy and served as an Aerial Engineer. In 1962 he returned to Hawaii to establish his career in the private sector. Harry became a member of the Honolulu Police Department in 1966 until his retirement in 1991. His retirement years included serving as a Contract Worker with HPD as well as a Procurement Technician for the U.S. Air Force. He is a member of the Class of 1957 of Kamehameha Schools and also attended school in Molokai prior to attending Kamehameha Schools for Boys. He had a lifelong passion for sports and achieved varsity letters in baseball and basketball at Kamehameha, he also pursued sporting activities including football during the 4 years he served in the United States Navy. While in the Navy, stationed in Japan, he met and married Kyoko Uemura. Kyoko preceded him in death after 43 years of marriage in 2005. They are parents to a son, Cary, who resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. On May 20, 2006, he married Marion Joy. The union brought renewed laughter, happiness, humor and the merging of two families which include sons Adam Joy and Albert (Wendy) Joy. He could not believe his good fortune. Together they traveled, danced, shared families, friends and the many challenges of everyday life. A focal point of Harry's life in the past two years was learning to grow closer to the Lord. In addition to his wife and sons, Harry is survived by 2 brothers: Wilfred Kealoha of Eugene, Oregon, Richard Morris of San Francisco; 3 sisters, Nani Brandt of Hoolehua, Molokai, Patricia Smith of Waianae, Oahu, and June Carter of Florida. He is survived by 4 grand-children and numerous nieces and nephews in addition to Marion's entire family that he embraced and considered his family. There are a bunch of us that went to Fern School and lived by St. John's Church that remember the Kealoha family. Tommy Onekea, Arlene Castillo, Donald Beirne and my self, Hedy Luna, were Fern School classmates of Harry...he's in our 6th grade graduation picture! My brother Wil was his brother Wilfred's (Chichi) friend and my sister Wilma the youngest sister's friend. But that was along time ago. Our condolences to all of the Kealoha ohana...our prayers are for your peace and strength in this time of loss.

My sympathy and prayers to Harry and his families. Didn't know Harry while @HPD, but we worked together at Kalaeloa and Kahala. I'll never forget his friendliness and wisdom. God Bless.
