Harry Makufke Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 14, 2025.
Harry Henry Makufke, 94, passed away on March 10, 2025, in Panama City, Florida. Born on December 10, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, Harry lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to his family, hard work, and an enduring sense of humor.

Harry proudly served his country in the United States Navy and later as a Marine Sergeant during the Korean War. Enlisting on March 2, 1950, he served with honor until his discharge on March 1, 1954. His time in the military instilled in him a strong sense of discipline and camaraderie that remained with him throughout his life.

Following his service, Harry built a successful career as a meat cutter and market manager before becoming a business owner. His work ethic and leadership skills made him a respected figure in the retail industry. Even later in life, he continued working in retail, always enjoying the opportunity to interact with people.

On May 23, 1953, Harry married Donna Jean Makufke, with whom he shared 67 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they raised four children and built a loving home filled with laughter and cherished memories. After Donna's passing, Harry found love again and married Brenda Makufke on March 25, 2023.

Harry had a zest for life that was evident in everything he did. He loved socializing with everyone he met and had an infectious sense of humor that brought joy to those around him. He enjoyed dancing and singing whenever the opportunity arose. A man of many interests, he found great pleasure in fishing, playing darts and cards, trying his luck at slot machines, and engaging in various outdoor activities such as water skiing, snow skiing, swimming, and ice skating. He also had a knack for keeping things clean and organized-a trait that those close to him knew well.

Above all else, Harry loved his family deeply. He is survived by his wife Brenda; his children Daniel Makufke (Charla), Teresa Savage, Sandra Roberts (Frank Jr.), and Susan Sullivan (Richard); eight grandchildren-Travis Basford (Nicole), Kaci Hawes (Thomas), Jacqui Hagan (Jon), Gregory Roberts, Aimee Jepkema (Josh), Matthew Roberts (Erica), Kristin Woods (Brian), and Katie Sullivan; as well as fifteen great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of love and laughter.

A memorial gathering will be held on March 15, 2025, at Seagrass Village in Panama City Beach, Florida. The service will take place from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM at 201 Seagrass Dr., where family members will share special memories alongside a slideshow presentation celebrating Harry's life.

Harry Henry Makufke will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and unwavering love for those around him. His memory will live on through the countless lives he touched.

I am very sorry to hear of Harry's passing. He was one of the first people we met when moving to Seagrass Village in 2018. He was a friend from the start and remained until the end. He enjoyed the simple things in life and was always the center of attention with his smile and wit. We were there for him and the rest of the family when Carole passed, I am sorry that we did not hear of Harry's passing until right before the service. Just know you are all in our thoughts and prayers. We did have the pleasure of seeing Harry and Brenda at the VA clinic recently. RIP Harry!
