Harry George Merrill, age 93 of Foley, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023 in Lake St. Louis, Missouri. He was born on August 25, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was the second of eight children born to Eugene and Kathryn (Nagel) Merrill. Harry honorably served our country in the Army during the Korean War and received a Purple Heart for his valor. He was married to the love of his life, Patricia Ann Weckherlin, on June 7, 1958 and they were blessed with 64 years together. Harry began his career working for Beckers-Behrens-Gist Lumber and then eventually opened his own, M & M Lumberyard. After closing the lumberyard, he then began to manage and eventually purchased an apartment building in the Central West End. He went on to sell this property and retired to Foley, Missouri. He loved to be outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening, enjoying nature and animals. He also enjoyed watching Cardinal Baseball and working puzzles. He will be greatly missed by his loving family.
Harry is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Merrill; and three children, Norma Lee Crossland (late Keith), Kathleen Jean Hefty (James) and Harry Vincent Merrill (Patricia). He also was grandfather of eight, Randy Merrill (Brittany), Keneisha Crossland, Monica Merrill, Jacqueline Chron, Tommie Merrill, Maryrose Hefty, Melissa Holts (Orlando) and the late Harry Merrill IV (Violet); and great-grandfather of twelve plus one more on the way. He was a dear brother to four siblings, Hazel Walls (late George), Emma Shramek (late Joseph), Patrick “Pat” Merrill (Judith), Mary “Mag” Vohsen (John); and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Eugene “Bud” Merrill (Mary), James "Jim" Merrill (Doris), and Donald “Duck” Merrill (Martha).
Services: Visitation at SHEPARD FUNERAL CHAPEL, 9255 Natural Bridge Road at I-170, St. Louis, Missouri (314-426-6000) on Sunday, March 19 from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. Funeral Service also at SHEPARD FUNERAL CHAPEL on Monday, March 20 at 11:30 a.m. Burial with Military Honors follows at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Road, St. Louis, Missouri.
