Harry Welker Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 8, 2022.
I remember hearing that your date of birth and death are not as important as the dash between them, your life, and how you lived it is what matters - My Dads DASH was HUGE, H Neal Welker was larger than life, big personality and laugh. He would put people at ease and make them feel fantastic - He Loved Life He was born July 30, 1936 in Clarkston Wa. to Emma and Harry Welker; he had one sister Vera Jane and two brothers Bob and Marv My Dad started working at a young age shinning shoes and his work ethic was like no other, He worked for Potlach Forest in Lewiston Id. My Dad went to work for GTE ( Yellow Pages) and totally kicked ass, he was always one of the top sales people and moved up fast. We moved from Everett Wa. to Anchorage Ak. and then onto Spokane Wa. promotions at every location My Dad was my biggest supporter, ally and friend - We had season tickets for the Seattle Seahawks, late 70's through the early 80's in the Kingdome and really bonded over the trips from Spokane to Seattle. My Dad Loved Life!!! In 1987ish my Dad moved to Southern California, Orange County area, where he met "his" person Peggy McGonigle - She was the Love Of His Life!! they enjoyed each other and where truly Best Friends as well - They moved to Fallbrook Ca., a very beautiful area. They were both fantastic Grandparents to my son Chaz - Peggys Daughter Nora, also blessed them with two beautiful girls Ellie and Lesley, they lovingly called him "NealPa"- he ate it up. Grandpa had a very special bond with Chaz, they loved talking and figuring stuff out. NealPa worked at Harrahs Casino in North County San Diego, He loved it and truly loved the people he worked with and the customers, he was a true people person. Peggy Passed a few years ago, my Dad was heartbroken but looked forward to meeting up with her in heaven. My Dad also served this country for 8 years in the Airforce - He absolutely was a Conservative Republican and loved to talk about it, A LOT - He loved Fox News - I think its fitting to add "Lets Go Brandon!!" He is survived by people who are really going to miss him. He adopted two girls my Sisters Julie and Marla back in the late 60's early 70's. My cousin Debbie was also a big part of his life. He leaves one brother behind, Robert or Uncle Bob as I know him. Waiting to meet up with him in heaven are his parents Harry and Emma, his sister Vera Jane, and younger brother Marv, along with other relatives and friends. He wont be bored and he will have several stories to share with the people he loves. WSU Cougar/Seahawk Fan For Eternity

Uncle Neal was like a big brother to me. He teased me, made me laugh and showed up when it was important. He loved his family and was a great friend. When he laughed it energized the room. I will miss that laugh.

Neal, was a wonderful neighbor Dand friend. Always enjoyed our conversations, even knowing he was not feeling well from chemo treatments. There was always a smile on his face, and positive talk. His presence made you respect this man, and what he stood for. My wife and I truly appreciate the time we had with Neal, and will never forget his kindness and positive attitude. What a great man to know.

I knew Neal for just a short time, but his warmth, quiet kindnesses and thoughtful generosity made him instant family. I will think of him in many moments to come, wish I could have known him better, and be grateful to have known him even briefly. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I've known and worked with you for several years and I'm glad we got to be friends. Going to miss going back and forth with you in our political talks and how much I learned from you along the way. I'm grateful I got a chance to talk to you one more time before you left. Even then, you didn't let me go without giving me a few more political jabs. Although we didn't always agree, we both found a way to laugh at each other. It was great having a friend you can be honest with. You were truly a good man. Love and miss you Neal!

Ron: You and your darling, fun and lovable dad had an enormous presence in my early adult life. I fondly remember him in Pullman and California. A force of positivity and warmth. You look just like him by the way. I'm certain he's looking down smiling on you and your family. God bless you and cheers to a life well lived.

Neal was a great friend and always enjoyable to be with.
In the 20yrs that I knew him I cannot think of one time I was not happy to see him either at work or socially outside of work. He was a great guy. I will miss him.

I worked with Neal for many many years and saw how strong he was going through cancer. He never wanted anyone to feel sorry for him. He would go through chemo and come to work and you would never know he was struggling. He fought hard. He loved life and it showed. I have so much respect and admiration for that man. He had a heart of gold and I enjoyed every day I worked with him. May he Rest In Peace. He will truly be missed.
