Harvey N. Hall, 87, of Edgewater, died September 4 at the Mandrin Chesapeake Inpatient Care Center of cancer. Born in Delaware to the late Harvey B. Hall and Ruth Nutter Hall, Dr. Hall was a veteran of World War II; serving as an Aviation Instructor to American, Brazilian and Chinese cadets in aerial navigation. In 1946, he married Claire Stewart and moved back to Maryland to complete his college career. Dr. Hall was a longtime educator; graduating from Galesville Elementary School, Annapolis High School, Washington College with his bachelor of science degree in Chemistry, University of Maryland with his master of science degree in science education and a Ph.D. in science education and physics. His first teaching position was in Calvert County, while also serving as a commanding officer of Calvert County National Guard. Dr. Hall moved back to Anne Arundel County in 1952 to take a teaching position at Southern High School. During that time, he started the first wrestling team in Anne Arundel County. He then accepted a job at Annapolis High School and continued to coach wrestling. Later, he became Supervisor of Instruction in Worcester County and Supervisor of Science in Prince George's County. Until his retirement, he served as a Professor of Education at Salisbury University and as head of the Education Department. In retirement, he and his wife returned to their family property in Edgewater, His interest included landscape gardening, and his interest in birds led to his presidency of the Anne Arundel Bird Club, banding of birds for the Fish and Wildlife Association and becoming program chairman for the Maryland Ornithological Society's annual meetings in Ocean City. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald S. Hall, in 2004. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Claire. Service and interment private.

May your family be comforted by the Bible's message of a future paradise on Earth in which 'death will be no more'.

I was a student and wrestler for Dr Haa in 1959-'61. He made Physics make sense to me and he was a great wrestling coach

Harvey Hall, 1957 AHS Yearbook

September 7, 2013

Harvey Nutter Hall will always be remembered with the greatest possible respect by the Annapolis High School Class of 1957, of which he was the faculty sponsor.

He was unsurpassed as a teacher, and his students loved him. He was an inspiration to them, and he always had confidence in them. That confidence often translated into great achievements that many of them never expected.

No words can describe the loss to his beloved wife and the rest of his world. I had an opportunity to visit with them a few years ago, and saw firsthand this loving couple and the retirement they had built for themselves. It was the envy of every loving couple, and their devotion to each other was manifest.

Though he taught at AHS for only a few short years, if ever any of its faculty should be inducted into an AHS Hall of Fame, this is truly the man. He was indeed a "Hall" of fame, to me and my other Class of 1957 classmates.

I'm sure that my inadequate expressed condolences represent only a fraction of those felt by every one of the AHS Class of 1957.

Claire, we are truly and sincerely sorry for your loss. It is in truth the World's loss.

Claire
I was an Annapolis High '57 student of Harvey's and like all of his pupils really enjoyed my classes. Harvey made learning fun while still teaching very effectively. The AHS family has lost a very valuable and fun member.
