Hauthaway Mabbett, Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 25, 2025.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Hauthaway Mabbett, Jr., affectionately known as "Way," who departed this life at the age of 83 in Roxbury, Connecticut.

Way was predeceased by his parents, Hauthaway Sr. and Anita Lane; wife, Mary Christina Nea; his brother, Lane; and his nephew, Ben. He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Deborah Prime; their cherished daughter, Amanda; son-in-law, Samuel; and treasured grandchildren, Kaiden and Amara. He also leaves behind his caring sister, Lisa, and a large extended family of nieces and nephews: Christian, Alexander, Sarah, Lane Jr., Anthony, Patrick, Nicholas, Marc, and Erica.

Way was a true gentleman-gracious, kind, and generous to all who knew him. He was a deeply loving and supportive husband, and an extraordinary father whose wisdom and warmth shaped the lives of those closest to him. His intellect was matched only by his humility and his passion for learning.

A lifelong scholar and voracious reader, Way devoured newspapers, magazines, and books with insatiable curiosity-especially those on news and politics. His love for literature was so profound that he once worked an entire summer at a bookstore just to earn a single book.

Born and raised in Hingham, Massachusetts, Way spent his childhood summers on Nantucket with his grandparents-memories he held dear throughout his life. He attended Tabor Academy, where he learned to sail aboard the Tabor Boy. One unforgettable voyage during spring break to Bermuda, the crew was declared lost at sea during a fierce storm. But under the guidance of their captain, the young sailors navigated their way home-a testament to Way's resilience and courage.

Way went on to graduate from Hamilton College and earned his MBA at University of Virginia. He served as CFO for Timex and International Nuclear Insurers, and later invested in and advised numerous companies. His fascination with the stock market was lifelong, and he pursued it with the same vigor he brought to every endeavor.

An intrepid traveler and cultural explorer, Way immersed himself in the world-engaging with locals, exchanging ideas, and sparking spirited debates wherever he went. He was blessed with many friendships over the years, each one meaningful and lasting.

Way's memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. We ask that you honor his legacy by keeping his stories alive and offering a prayer now and then-for Way, and for all those who came before us.

Funeral services will be held at a later date.
