Heather Evoy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 4, 2009.
EVOY, Heather Jeanne (nee Davidson) Registered Nurse (Retired) After a long, difficult and courageous battle with a dreadful disease, Heather Jeanne Evoy passed away at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on January 31, 2009 at the age of 66. She is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 45 years, Don. She is also survived by her brother Rodney (Geraldine) of Ottawa. She was predeceased by her parents, Major (Dr.) Ronald Davidson and Jennie Miriam Davidson. She will be sorely missed by all other family members and her many friends in Ottawa, Montreal, BC and overseas. Heather was born in Saint John, NB on December 19, 1942. Being the daughter of a military officer, she lived in many different locales in Canada and Germany as she grew up. She graduated in 1964 from the Royal Columbian Hospital School of Nursing in New Westminster, BC. Being a military wife, she nursed in many different locales in Canada including Whitehorse, Victoria, Kingston and Ottawa as she accompanied Don on his military postings. She also nursed in Lahr, Germany and in Virginia Beach, VA. Two of Heather's greatest passions in life were traveling and walking. She fulfilled these passions by taking many walking vacations with Don in a large variety of countries throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. She took great pleasure in exploring areas in these countries that were not normally seen by run of the mill tourists. Her other passions included cooking, reading, sewing and cats. Heather was actively involved in organized volkssport walking for many years and served on the Executive of several volkssport organizations in BC and elsewhere. She was also a founder and organizing committee member of the highly successful Victoria International Walking Festival which was held for 10 years in Victoria BC. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Society of Ottawa or the Ottawa Humane Society would be appreciated. A private graveside ceremony will held in the spring.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Hi Don!
There was not enough time that I spent with Heather at the Good Companion to know her. I was and still am a volunteer there and my heart went out to her during those difficult times she experienced. She is now at rest and in a better place... free from all aches and pains. May She Rest in Peace and may you take solace and consolation in her absence. Peace and Good Luck.

Don and Rod and families.
Although not unexpected, I was never-the-less shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Heather. My memories of Heather, her parents and brother go back to Islerlohn W Gemany in the late '50's and into the '60's when she was in nursing school in New Westminster, BC. After she married, she disappeared from my radar screen except off and on, such as the article in the military magazine, The Sentinel. We met again in 1997 when the Pacific Signaller's Reunion was started up and saw one another several times up until you moved to Ottawa in 2003.
My sincere condolences to you all. As I said to you Don, "Heather was a great gal." She will be missed by all who knew her.
