HEATHER FINCH Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 20 to Oct. 21, 2010.
Heather Johnson Finch 1970 ~ 2010 Heather died tragically in an airplane accident in Nepal, on August 24, 2010, while living her dream to explore Mt. Everest. Heather was an avid hiker with a goal of reaching the summit of the highest mountain in every State, and she always proclaimed the view from the top of the world was the closest thing to being with God. Heather, 40, was born on February 2, 1970 in Norman, Oklahoma to Phil Johnson and Karla Firestone. She was raised in Clinton, Utah and graduated from Clearfield High School. Heather was an overachiever in every aspect of life, including her work at the law firm of Howard, Lewis, & Petersen, receiving Utah's highest award available to paralegals: the Distinguished Paralegal Of The Year Award from the Utah State Bar in 2009, and was also Chair of the Paralegal Division of the Utah State Bar at the time of her passing. Heather was a devoted wife, mother, and wonderful friend. She is survived by her husband Douglas Finch and children Amber, Eric, Chrystal, Christopher, and Samantha. Grandchildren Evander and Lydia. Father Phil Johnson. Mother Karla Johnson. Sister Brittany, brother-in-law John Dietrich, nieces Eryn and Rylee, and so many special friends and colleagues that are greatly appreciated. She is also survived by her paternal grandparents Ross and Aileen Johnson, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Estes and Trudy Firestone and uncle Stan Jackson, M.D. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday October 23, 2010, 12:30 p.m., at the LDS chapel located at 80 South 280 East, Orem, Utah. Family and friends are invited to extend their personal condolences in the Relief Society Room between 11:00 a.m. and Noon prior to the service. A luncheon will also be served at 3:00 p.m. in the cultural hall to visit with Heather's family. In lieu of flowers and to honor Heather's life and accomplishments, a first-ever Memorial Endowed Scholarship has been established at Utah Valley University by the Paralegal Division of the Utah State Bar. Colleagues and friends are encouraged to make donations to this scholarship fund through the Utah State Bar to keep Heather's memory and good works alive. A joint memorial fund has also been established for the families of Heather Finch and Leuzi Cardoso at AmBank in Provo.

To my sweet sister. Today is my birthday and how bittersweet it is. You usually were the first to call me to give me my birthday wishes. I miss you so much. I am amazed at how many times a day I want to pick up the phone to call you about something and stop mid-thought and realize you are gone. Will this ever get easier. You were such a great and positive influence on my life and my daughters. Truly all things good and kind in this world. I love you. Until we meet again. Your favorite sister "B".

To my dear sweet sister. Today is my birthday. How bittersweet, as usually you were the first to call and wake me up with your birthday wishes. I miss you so much. There are so many times I just want to pick up the phone and tell you things but catch myself mid-thought and realize you are gone. WIll this ever get easier. I love you more than you know and realize what a great influence you had on my life. You truly were all things good and kind in this world. Thanks for being my wonderful big sister. Until we meet again. B

Heather,
I couldn't have asked for a better sister-in-law. You were always willing to make the sacrifices to help anyone with anything. I will miss your funny laugh, positive attitude and caring personality. You will always be close to my heart - May you now climb the highest mountain, to the most beautiful peak ever.

Heather,

I am going to sorely miss our strategy talks on how to improve the paralegal profession in our state. You lent me so much more tact than I had at times; especially when I wanted to be more brash and demanding as I expected swifter action to bring more progress to our profession in a more rapid timeframe. You were and always will be the consummate professional. I miss having your intellectual insight, hearing your humorous laugh and seeing your pink blackberry phone cover in our Paralegal Board meetings. Isn't it funny that a small materialistic symbol like your phone cover could ever so eloquently encapsulate the epitome of your vibrant laugh, your extraordinary character and your sunny smile? You have left a huge hole in the hearts of the legal community that will never be replaced. Thanks for being such a great example to me and to so many others. I know you must be metaphorically now sitting on that mountain top right next to our heavenly father. Until then, I promise to keep pursuing the professional high roads while hiking the highest peaks in my "sound of music syndrome" manner, always in a common pursuit of that earthly mountain top that brings me closer to my long lost friend. You weren't supposed to be taken away from us this early. Thank you so much for lending us your remarkable friendship for just a little while.

- Respectfully, 2009-2010 Fmr. Utah Paralegal Division Chair Aaron Thompson
