Hector R. Garcia AUGUST 11, 1943 – AUGUST 13 , 2023
IN THE CARE OF
Sanchez Funeral HomeIt is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hector R. Garcia on August 13, 2023. Hector was born on August 11, 1943, to Eudocio (t) and Salome (t) (Muñoz) Garcia. The youngest of five children, he was raised — along with his siblings Leonel, Eudocio (t), Humberto, and Estella — in Rio Grande City, Texas.
Hector married Aide Mascorro on February 5, 1967. Recently, they celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. Hector was a devoted family man to his wife and children — Veronica (Collin), Georgina (David), and Hector, Jr. — and a loving grandfather to his four grandchildren: Tyler James, Ryan Joseph, Vivian Kate, and Luke David.
Hector was a dedicated and hardworking man, having spent a significant part of his professional journey at Starr Produce for 43 years and finishing his career at the Starr County Sheriff’s Department.
Outside of work, Hector found joy in caring for his horses and participating in quarter horse racing. Many weekends were spent at area racetracks. The thundering hooves and the thrill of the racetrack held a special place in his heart.
Hector and Aide were fortunate to travel to many destinations. Among them were Mexico and various places throughout the US, including a memorable trip to New York City to see Yankee Stadium, as well as a family cruise to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary. For many years they made an annual pilgrimage to the Basilica de la Virgen de San Juan de los Lagos in Jalisco, Mexico. However, it was the dazzling lights and vibrant energy of Las Vegas, Nevada, that truly captivated Hector. His frequent visits to the city showcased his fondness for excitement and entertainment. Particularly, the Super Bowl became an annual tradition for him to revel in the festivities of the occasion. The craps tables were his playground, and rolling a triumphant "YO 11" brought an infectious smile to his face, a testament to the joy and good luck it consistently brought him.
Hector’s life was a tapestry woven with the threads of hard work, passion, and shared moments that made his presence a gift to all who knew him. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. His memory will be cherished by numerous nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed, but the memories of his vibrant spirit will forever remain alive in our hearts.
Visitation will be held at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City on Friday, August 18th, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., with a Rosary at 6:00 P.M. A funeral mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Saturday, August 19th at 10:00 A.M.
