Dear Colonel,

I cannot fathom how the past two years passed without you and I sharing our daily joke, neither can I believe the same length of time passed without us sharing a laugh. Thank you for everything, especially teaching me how to be Southern Gentleman, and all attributes associated therein, You were my Hero when I was 5-years-old, you are my Hero today, and you will always remain my Hero. Thank you for loving us all so much, and reminding me (either via a hastily written note, a text message, a phone call, in-person, or a combination of all aforementioned methods) everyday that you loved me. Of course, thank you for loving, and your initial reaction upon seeing and meeting Nicole. That was the best reaction. Ever!! I wish y'all had more time, and that our child would grow-up knowing you. He/she'll know everything about you, and your legacy, and I promise to show them the same love and teach them daily, as you did for me.

Thank for loving my 'puppy', - aka Giant Five, Big Noser, and myriad nicknames - Fiver so much, and treating, as well as thinking of him, as the first official granddog/grandkid.

I love you Colonel. I miss you everyday, and I hope I make you proud. Please keep Fiver company and y'all have fun running and playing in Heaven's oceans! And please, give him a kiss from his Poppa.

Thank you dad. With all my love,

PVH

Just found out about this tonight. Dr. Henry was my son, Jacob's, kidney surgeon. He was an incredible man with a passion for children. He was scheduled to leave on a tour of Iraq in 2003 when Jacob needed emergency surgery to repair a kidney that was in danger of shutting down. He could have passed our case on to another surgeon, but only days away from leaving the States, he scheduled and performed the surgery for our then five year-old. I am forever grateful for his skill and compassion. It is well worth your time to read his short bio in his obituary. We are better for having known him. God speed, Dr. Henry. Prayers for his friends and family.

Hector was an inspiration to everyone who had the pleasure of meeting and working with him. We served together on the NC Medical Board for several years and although I eventually rotated off the board, Hector always sought to serve at the Governor's pleasure longer than anyone could dream of doing, and he did it expertly. His service as a PATRIOT, SOLDIER, LEADER, and SURGEON-PHYSICIAN, and his FRIENDSHIP will never be forgotten. My personal condolences to Marjorie and the Henry family.

A hero is gone- yet not without first serving his community and country at full capacity in numerous ways.
I first met Hector, the Doctor- one who eventually operated on all 4 of my children. My kids loved him and his kind, caring and witty demeanor. A family friendship began way back then and endures today.
Hector loved his country and the US Army he served. He stayed in shape- way beyond what others his age did, so that he would be ready when called again to serve. As he retired from private practice he continued to serve veterans and traveled great distances to help them at VA Medical Centers.
Hector was a great father and he loved his grandchildren. He served Concord and the State of North Carolina in many ways and often at the expense of his loved ones. He was a giving, loving and strong person who leaves an indelible mark on our community. We are a better place because of folks like Hector Henry. He was my friend and I admired him and his commitment to service. He was an excellent physician for my kids an admirable role model for all. Our condolences to the family. We will all miss him.

Marjorie,

Didn't know Hector as well as I would have liked but admired him for his generosity, honesty and competitive spirit, and as my brother military officer. We played racquetball several times over the years when I visited my brother Tom in Concord.
I share your grief and trust God will bring you solace.

Dr. Henry operated on me when he came to Concord. He was a Godsend. A very loving, compassionate man. When he knew there was nothing more he could do for me, he sent me to Duke Hospital Urologist. I am so very upset and saddened at hearing of his passing, but i know he is rejoicing and no longer in pain in Heaven with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I will always remember him and cherish all that he did for me as my Doctor. I will miss him terribly.
