CARTER, HELEN GEORGE Helen G. Carter, 87, of Rancho Bernardo, California, died Friday, November 2, 2012, at 3:40 p.m., in Ventura, California. She was born on February 13, 1925, in Hollis, New York. She was the daughter of Oscar and Helen (Mollenhauer) George. She married James Theodore (Jim) Carter on May 17, 1947, in Hollis, New York; he preceded her in death on September 16, 2001. She is survived by two daughters, Judith (John) Troike of Sisters, Oregon; and Janice (Steve Koch) Larson of Ventura, California; and one son, James (Debra) Carter, of Wheaton, Illinois. There are five grandchildren, Jennifer and Jonathan Troike; Christin and Kelly Carter; and Jay Larson, and a brother, O.R. George (Jeannie) from Olympia, WA. After high school and early in her marriage, Helen worked for AT&T and Illinois Bell Telephone Company. In 1950 at the beginning of the Korean Conflict, Jim was called back to army active duty and Helen, along with daughter Judy, joined him in Cayugas, California, just outside Vandenberg AFB. When they returned to Illinois in 1953, they spent the next six years in Park Forest, and then finally settled and lived in East Dundee, Illinois. Helen was an active member of the community, serving as President of the Dundee Women's Club and President of the Women of the Church at St. James Episcopal. Retiring to Rancho Bernardo, California in 1979, she remained active as a member of the RB Lady Lions, The Belles, and as a member of St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church in Poway. Throughout her life she remained an avid bridge player and enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. with her family, and to Europe, Australia, and New Zealand with Jim after retirement. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., November 17th, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Ojai, CA. Interment will take place the following day at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Poway.
