Dover - Helen Sue Darnell, 68, of Dover, Kentucky died Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the St. Elizabeth – Edgewood Hospital. She was the widow of Donald Eugene Darnell who died in 2001. Mrs. Darnell was a bus monitor for twenty-four and a half years for the Mason County Board of Education and she was a member of the Dover Baptist Church. Sue always worked beside her late husband to maintain the farm and she loved taking care of all of her grandchildren. She was born in Bracken County, Kentucky on June 21, 1949 the daughter of the late William Albert Ruf and Edith Marie Clark Ruf. Survivors include her son, Donald "Donnie" E. Darnell, III (Jennifer) of Dover, KY; her four daughters, Tammy Darnell of Dover, KY; Carol Gibbs (Artie) of Orangeburg, KY; Angela Michele Carrington (George) of Minerva, KY and Amy Darnell (Jamie) of Augusta, KY; her grandchildren, Tristan, Madeline, David and Allen Darnell; Nicole and Allison Gibbs; Kyle and Kassie Carrington; Charles Evans, Jr III; Robert Brooks; Jacob Sidell and Jamie Lang, Jr.; four step grandchildren, Kaleigh and Madison Jones; Jeremy Insko; Michelle Woodruf and Christopher Moford and her great grandchild, Zandier Gibbs. Also surviving are her brothers, Charlie, Jim, Larry, Dick and Butch Ruf and her sisters, Eleanor Moore, Rose Howard, Fern Adams, Short Snapp, Karen Thomas and Donna Johnson. Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a set of twin siblings in infancy. Funeral services for Sue Darnell will be held at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 28, 2018 with Rev. Doug Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Maysville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ryan, Timmy Ruf, Kelly Ruf, Matt Ruf, Greg Darnell and Brian Lippertt. Honorary Pallbearers will be George Carrington, Donnie Darnell, Tristan Darnell, Charlie Evans, Artie Gibbs and Jamie Lang. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 27, 2018 from 5 to 8 PM.

I miss you more than you could possibly imagine, my sweet Aunt Sue. I'm so thankful for all of the happy times that we got to share over the years, and will cherish them all in my heart forever, just as I always have. My thoughts, prayers, and love are with my dear cousins at this terrible time of their loss and emptiness.
