Helen J. Dye, 65, passed away on Sept. 29, 2006, from a brief illness at her home.
She was the daughter of the late Robert and Molly Baker Justus and the widow of Arthur Howard Dye, 101st Airborne Division. U.S. Army.
Born in Buchanan County, Va., she grew up in West Virginia and Boones Creek, Tenn.
Helen was a member of Mountain View Church of Christ and participated in many community activities in her lifetime. She was a Boy Scout Cub Scout den mother of Den 52 in Kingsport and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary. She loved animals and children.
Helen was a graduate of Steed College with a degree in fashion merchandising. She raised two children as a single mother and made a career as a studio portrait photographer with Ronson Studios in Kingsport and later had her own photography studio, Empress Studios in Johnson City. She studied at Artiste Beauty School in the late 1950s. She was an amateur artist and loved dancing and singing. Helen was a very capable woman who could repair almost anything.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, Phillip Lee Justus, Donald Ray Justus and James Matthew Justus.
She is survived by her daughter, Darla Dye of Jonesborough; her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff E. Dye and Cindy Walker Dye of Johnson City; seven sisters, Thelma Zeoli of Kissimmee, Fla., Phyllis Elrich of Port Charlotte, Fla., Janice Fisher of Deltona, Fla., Dot Smithey of Deltona, Betty Stockinger of Port Charlotte, Katha Fields of New Orleans, La., and Debbie Sue Justus of Huntsville, Ala.; two aunts, Linnie Justus of Wytheville and Elizabeth Lester of Mooresville, N.C.; several nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law, Thelma Justus of Blountville; four grandchildren, Will O'Brien and his wife Jamie Lynn of Largo, Fla., Jessica Dye of Venice, Fla., Jeffrey W. Dye and Kristin Dye of Johnson City; two great-granddaughters, Haley Lynn and Teagan Shyla O'Brien of Largo; special friends, Glen Joyner and Marty and Kim Love.
God bless all the doctors, nurses and all other healthcare people who helped in her valiant fight against cancer. She is now with Jesus and may sleep peacefully, free from fear forevermore. We love you!
A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at 8 p.m. in the Sunrise Chapel of the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 6–8 p.m. prior to the service. Entombment and committal services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Washington County Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. Active pallbearers will be Jeff Dye, Jeffery Dye, Will O'Brien, Ray Justus Jr., Glen Joyner and Marty Love. Honorary pallbearers will be Rayburn Stockinger, Rick Smithey, Larry Justus and Gale Elrich. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 a.m. to go in procession.
