Helen Friesen

HELEN FRIESEN (Wiens) 1902 2007 Helen went to be with the Lord on January 15, 2007 at the age of 104. Mom was born on the estate of New Rosenhoff Ukraine where she took her grade school, then on to Choritiza School for girls. In 1921 she married Dietrich Friesen. In 1925 they immigrated to Canada; one year in Ontario and then on to Dundurn. They built a house near the elevator where mom had a large garden. In winter she crocheted and played piano. She was an active member in the Dundurn Mennonite Church and Ladies Aid. In 1965 they moved to Saskatoon where she continued to share her produce with new neighbors. Mom had a full and rewarding life experienced many changes. We grant her peace. She is survived by two sons, George (Minnie), Harry (Anne); daughter-in-law, Florence; nine grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one brother, Con (Eva Marie) Neufeld; two sisters, Catherine Tunbridge and Victoria Kinash. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Dietrich in 1976; two sisters, Suzanna Neustadter and Agnes Derkson. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 19th, at 2:00 p.m. from the First Mennonite Church (418 Queen Street) with Pastor Esther Patkau presiding. Following the reception, the interment will take place at Dundurn Hillside Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Central Haven Special Care Home (1020 Avenue I N, Saskatoon, S7L 2H7) or Bethany Manor (110 La Ronge Rd Saskatoon, S7K 7H8).
