I am so sorry for your great loss. Mrs Hawkes was a remarkable woman and so proud of her family; you gave her great pride and pleasure every day of her life.
I had not known where Mrs Hawkes was but often thought of her and wondered where and how she was. Her house was only a block from ours, and she had been a significant force in my husband's department at the U of A, as she always knew the who and how of getting around bureaucracy. I last saw her at the school (our polling place) at an election a few years ago. I've only just read of her passing - half a day too late to attend the service; Mrs Hawkes would have had something to say about that! She was a strong woman who will live on vividly in the memories of all who knew her.
My neighbour Ethel Bell passed away last year, or she would join me in a fond farewell to a good friend whom she had always admired.

Even though Helen was my 1st cousin, I never met her until 1996. My mother spoke of her often, and when she arrived I couldn't believe how she resembled the pictures of "our" grandmother". She had a profound effect on our family, with her wisdom and wit. We always cherish her visits! We would like to express our condolences for your loss.

I am certain that Helen was the patient in the room adjacent to my husband Richard (Dick) on 3D at Capital Care Dickinsfield. I did not converse with Helen as as she was always in her room when I was there so I merely admired her collection of plants and flowers in the window as I walked by her room. I did speak with her son when he visited so I did learn how mentally alert and active she was at her advanced age. The night before she moved to another facility she approached my husband and I to say " I have enjoyed knowing you Richard". We then talked for a few minutes and I was astounded at the meaningful life she had led. Sadly, Dick passed away last month on October 29 th. I shall be thinking of Helen's family in the difficult days ahead.
