Helen J. Wilbur Herner

Helen J. Wilbur Herner, 90, wife of Raymond F. Herner of Oak Ridge Road, Towanda, formerly of 27 Walnut St., Towanda, Pa., passed away Sunday morning, March 21, 2010 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Memorial Hospital, N. Towanda Twp., Pa.

Born Dec. 9, 1919, in Monroeton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Mazie House Wilbur. Helen was a graduate of Towanda High School Class of 1937. On Dec. 26, 1943, she married Raymond F. Herner in Beaumont, Pa. During World War II Helen was employed by the Eclipse in Elmira, N.Y.

She was later employed by the A and P Supermarket in Towanda, the Towanda Folding Box Company and by Fairchild's Gift Shop in Towanda.

Helen served as an Avon representative in the Towanda area for many years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Towanda. Her main interest in life was her home and family.

Surviving are:

Her husband, Raymond F. Herner; her son, Mark Alan Herner of Severna Park, Ma.; Mark's fiancée, Janet McMinn Smith of Boothwyn, Pa.; two granddaughters, Mary Jo Herner and her husband, James Wilson of New Orleans, La., Cindy Miracle of Severna Park, Md.; several great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Robert Herner on April 7, 1999; her sister, Marian Bennett on Oct. 31, 2003; and her brother in law, Robert Bennett.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 25, at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa., with Rev. James Hollister, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Towanda, Pa., officiating.

Interment will be in the Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, Pa., at a later date.
