ASHLAND AND BANGOR - Eddie Carney, 96, formerly of Ashland, died peacefully January 3, 2015 at the Maine Veterans Home, Bangor. He was born February 8, 1918 in Ashland, a son of the late Peter and Mary Ann (Beaulieu) Carney.

He served in the South Pacific region. Eddie worked as a Quality Control Technician with Pratt & Whitney, Hartford, CT, for several years before returning to his hometown of Ashland. He worked in the forestry and construction industry for many years. A life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post# 9699, Ashland, Eddie enlisted with the US Navy in 1943. He was a former parishioner of St. Mark's Catholic Church, Ashland and enjoyed watching baseball, football and hockey games on television.

He is survived by: two sons, Crawford Carney and his wife Shirley of Mesa, AZ and Keith Carney of Ashland, ME; one daughter, Kathy (Carney) Chandler of Caribou, ME; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three sister-in-laws; and many nieces and seven nephews.

Besides the love of his life, his wife Madeline (St. Louis) Carney, Eddie is predeceased by five brothers and 4 sisters.

A graveside service with military honors will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 1st, 2015 at St. Joseph Cemetery, High St., in Old Town. There will be no calling hours.
