Helen Ofsanko Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 3, 2025.
Helen Louise Bayush Ofsanko, age 94, of Cumming, GA passed away on June 29, 2025. Helen was born November 19, 1930, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, one of 10 children of the late Thomas Bayush and Katherine Zietz, proud Polish immigrants. She was a graduate of Franklin High School, Johnstown, PA. She married her minor league baseball player and World War II veteran Frank Ofsanko in 1950 in Johnstown, PA where they resided until 1953 and then relocated to Decatur, GA where they lived for 28 years. In 1982 they moved to Cumming, GA where she lived for 42 years.

Helen retired from Sears Roebuck, where she worked as a sales assistant in retail for 28 years. Helen had a passion for flower gardening, and her yard displayed numerous flower gardens that attracted birds and butterflies. She enjoyed reading, traveling, word puzzles, and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Christmas and Easter were her favorite holidays. What was most important to her, and she enjoyed more than anything, was being with and taking care of her family.

Helen loved everyone she met and lived life to the fullest. She was very spiritual, and her life was guided by her faith in God. She was a member of St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church for over 20 years. She greatly influenced the lives of those who knew her. She opened her home and heart to so many people and her kindness, warmth and sense of humor will be greatly missed. She and her husband Frank (Hank), who were married for over 74 years, did everything together as a couple. You'd never see one without the other.

She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She is survived by her husband Frank, daughters Debbie McCormick, Kathy Ebert Major, Mary Lynn Boeh, (John Boeh) 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, sister Dorothy Ullery, numerous nieces and nephews whose lives she all touched.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cumming Post 307 of the American Legion, Inc. P.O. Box 2624, Cumming, GA 30028-6507.

A celebration of life was held on Monday, July 7th at 3pm at McDonald & Son Funeral Home, 150 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, GA 30040
