Helen Parker Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 19, 2024.
Helen Parker of San Francisco, California passed away on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2024. The daughter of Paul and Dorothy Parker, Helen lived her entire life in San Francisco and was well-known for her friendliness and effervescent smile. Helen loved people and cats and made friends wherever she went. She was a beloved staff member at the Diamond Senior Center and Live Oak School in the 1980s, 90s, and early 2000s. A devout member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Helen participated in their faith-sharing group and book club. Helen took college classes and painted lovely miniature water-colors for her friends. Helen's survivors include Darlene (Dee) and David Butner and her cat Beannie (adopted by Dee and Dave). She will be deeply missed by family and her many friends. Helen asked to be remembered in prayers; no funeral services are planned. She will be interred with her parents at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma. Thank you to By the Bay Health's hospice team members-Laura, Lexie, Enver-who showed such compassion in their care of Helen.

Helen was a dear friend and my client at a local boutique in San Francisco "Ambiance". I'd look forward seeing her come in and chat with me. Even though we had a big age difference, we'd have so much in common. Helen was always positive and so supportive. I learned so much from her. How people can just be a genuine kind person without expecting anything in return. Ive been thinking about her this past year now living in Texas. Sad to see her pass. But I know she is truly an angel. Condolences to her family. Jeanny Cortes

Helen and I were in several groups at St. Agnes. She shared many experiences with us. Most striking were accounts of the times she met someone who seemed in need of comforting words which she offered generously. Once it was the father of a child hospitalized at UCSF. This dad was on his own, not a resident of the Bay Area, without companionship and desperately worried about his child. After Helen´s initial conversation, he kept in contact with her for years. When she told us this story a parishioner who seldom spoke up in groups said, " You have such a good heart!" That´s the way I will always remember Helen.

I met Helen through St. Agnes Parish in SF. We shared a love of cats. She took such joy in their company. We also shared our faith experiences. Helen gave me a beautiful pendant with the image of an angel when we concluded a shared meditation group that I led. Such a thoughtful gift. She will be in my memory until we meet again.

Helen was a wonderful friend of our family. She was always so cheerful and had a beautiful smile. We met her when she was the morning care teacher at Live Oak school. Our daughter LOVED Helen, and soon we came to love her, too. She was so kind and her heart so big. She introduced us to All You Knead in the Haight and this became a regular breakfast spot. Then we'd walk over to her place and play with her cats and just chat for hours. What a lovely woman she was.

I will always remember Helen's sweet and caring nature. I felt so privileged to meet her and work with her. May she be in peace and reunited with her loved ones on the other side.

One of my favorite memories of Helen is going to the SPCA with her and my children to pick a cat. I had to leave for a short time, and when I came back they had made a choice: Mikey! Helen loved spending time with Mikey and hearing/sharing stories about him. We shared so many laughs about the antics of that cat! I've never known anyone to love cats as much as Helen.
