STERNBERG-POWIDZKI, Helen M.

Helen M. Sternberg-Powidzki, 65, of Carey Street Newport, died at home Saturday March 2, 2013. She was the wife of Martin Sternberg-Powidzki. Born in Hartford on October 2, 1947. She was a daughter of Josephine (Leo) Chesky of Marlborough, and the late Alfred Chesky. Helen was a graduate of the University of Connecticut, class of 1969 where she received a degree in Political Science. She was an avid chef and a perennial Newport In Bloom award winning gardener. Besides her mother and husband she leaves her children, Christopher Sternberg-Powidzki and his wife Sharon of Seattle, WA, her daughter Catherine Sternberg-Powidzki of Providence, RI, and grandson Anthony Sternberg-Powidzki; her brothers Michael Chesky and his wife Barbara, Alfred Chesky and his wife Darlene all of Marlborough; her nieces and nephews Alison, Michael Jr., Stephen, Amy and Jennifer Chesky.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 from 4-7 p.m. with readings at 6:30 p.m. at the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring Street, Newport. Burial will be private.
