Helen Wanbaugh Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 16 to Dec. 18, 2022.
Helen Lowery Wanbaugh Port Orange - Helen Lowery Wanbaugh of Port Orange, FL, loving wife and mother of seven children, passed away December 11, 2022 after a short illness at age 91.

Helen was born on November 12, 1931 in Columbus, OH to Herbert and Effie Lowery, the oldest of 12 children. In April, 1949 she married Arthur Kilpatrick. They raised five children in Annapolis, MD where she lived most of her adult life. On May 18, 1973, Helen married William (Bill) Wanbaugh, and in 2001 they moved in retirement to Port Orange.

Helen loved the Florida sunshine and "her" ocean. She loved playing card games and was always a smiling but fierce competitor. More than anything, she loved her family and was the glue that brought them all together for countless holiday and celebration occasions.

Helen was preceded in death by her father, Herbert, her mother, Effie; sisters Kathy and Pat; brothers Jim, Jack, Dave, Darrell and Doug; and first husband Arthur. She is survived by her husband Bill; her five children, Bob Kilpatrick (Susan), Linda Spaulding (Steve Creech), Mike Kilpatrick (Carol), Dave Kilpatrick (Noris) and Larry Kilpatrick; two stepchildren, Steve Wanbaugh (Becky) and Cindy Badger (Steve); three sisters, Judy Meldau, Jo McCleese, and Maeve Tuller; one brother, Bill Lowery; 16 grandchildren, Karen, Sara, Shayne, Shannon, Jacob, Sarah, Brian, Christie, Brad, Ashley, Eric, Jessie, Josiah, Justin, Erica and Sam; 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

The family will observe a private memorial service. Donations in her memory may be made to either Halifax Urban Ministries in Daytona Beach, FL or the Halifax Health Hospice in Port Orange, FL.

I recall that Bill hired me as an engineer with the IIT Research Institute at the DOD ECAC in Annapolis, circa 1969. Helen was our secretary. She was wonderful to work with, especially during my initial adjustment period. Fred Matos
