Henrietta ANTONY Obituary

Published by Monteal Gazette from Jan. 17 to Jan. 20, 2015.

ANTONY, Henrietta (née Nesvadbova)
1932 - 2015
Henrietta Antony, of Westmount and Sutton, Quebec died on January 13th at the age of 82, after a long battle with lymphoma. She is survived by her children Susan Lande (Ian) of McLean, VA, John Antony (Karena) of Sutton, Quebec, and Thomas Antony (Nicole) of Toronto, Ontario, and by her four beloved grandchildren Ben, Kathy, Gabrielle and Francesca. She is also survived by her brother and lifelong business associate Henry Nesvadba (Emily) of Westmount, Quebec and her sister Mary Richter of Wellington, Ontario. She was predeceased by her husband Tony and her sister Helen Richards. Henrietta's passion in life was all things creative, as shown by the unique and delightful eponymous antique store she ran for over fifty years and by Chapelle Ste Agnès, the enchanting and magical vineyard she created in Sutton. A member of the Rotarians, she was known for her generosity, both to friends and strangers. She will be greatly missed by friends and family. Services will be held at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex, 1297 chemin de la Forêt, Outremont on Saturday January 24th, 2015 at 11 a.m. Our gratitude to Dr Stephen Caplan and his team at the JGH for adding 12 wonderful years to her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (www.llscanada.org), the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca) or a charity of your choice.

My deepest condolences to the Antony family. I recently visited the Vignoble and was blown away by all the work, the hardship and genuine creativity it took to make it happen. It's remarkable how one woman's dream and passion was brought to life and a true testimonial to Henrietta's character and love of life. Her passing was a great loss as is the case with all wonderful artists and creators and I truly feel for her loved ones. I really hope that her dream will continue to grow and prosper with her family, along with all her side projects.

Four of us visited this lovely vineyard property and we had the immense pleasure and privilege of having the tour with Mrs Antony. This was about three years ago I believe and there she was standing in her chapel telling stories with such sparkling eyes. This lovely lady in a few minutes had us all captivated and made an impression that you never forget. I was saddened to hear yesterday on the news that she passed away. My sincere condolences to her family and friends who were very lucky to be close to such a remarkable lady.

She was every bit as classy as her store, if one could even call it that - more like a treasure trove of beautiful things. She was also a supporter of the arts, in particular the English-speaking theatre scene in Montreal for which I was always grateful.

To Henrietta's Family, I was sadden to heard of her passing. I always enjoyed our meeting at the store each summer during my stay it Montreal. She always had an interest about my experiences in Calgary and Nova Scotia. Henrietta was so happy about the St. Agnes Chapel & Vineyard- " Daniel, you must visit me at St.Agnes !" Remarkable woman. We will all miss her.

Une grande dame, audacieuse; une bâtisseuse rigoureuse ne laissant rien au hasard. Une travailleuse infatigable qui laisse une grande oeuvre; un patrimoine à l'épreuve du temps.
Merci de votre confiance Henrietta.

Truly believe you were there, one could sense it by all attendees, an extremely classy adieu fitting for such a " grande dame", albeit your age never showed with your vitality, speaking for all I believe, you shall be sorely missed, but never forgotten.
Love John C. Briscoe.

Dear Susan & John, So sorry to hear about Henrietta. I know she put up a battle, with the same determination and strength as she applied to her other challenges in life, whether chosen or unexpected. I admire her very much and she is a great example of how women can be whatever they want to be. May her legacy (which will live on forever) bring you and your family comfort and help to ease your sadness at this time. Sincerely Maria.

Henrietta did not just slip through this world. She made a strong mark wherever she went - with her unique and outstanding antique store, her involvement in community and later her exquisite winery.
She was always a wonderful hostess - welcoming and kind when we visited Chapelle St-Agnes with friends and family.
She will, no doubt, be missed but definitely not forgotten.
My sincere condollences to John and the entire family.

To Henrietta's Family. Having known Henrietta, her brother and her children over the past many years, I would like to express my sincerest sympathies on the passing of a remarkable woman. Knew her way back when she was on Greene Ave. and of course on Ste. Catherine Street - always welcoming with a great smile and the most gracious of attitude. Even though I have not seen the Family for a few years now - I too am semi-retired - I still have fondest memories of all of you and pass along my love at this saddest of times for you.
Most sincerely, David Brown

Henrietta was a delight. Such amazing energy and joy of life. We were blessed to be able to share in her stories and escapades through out the past 45 years and more, through our mom Estelle. We can only imagine the high jinks they are up to now that they are together once again. Our most sincere condolences.

So sad to hear the news of Henrietta's passing. We were married at her beautiful vineyard in July of 2011 and she was nothing but hospitable to us. Henrietta's kind heart and passion for life made her such a delight to know. We are so very lucky to have met such a kind lady as Henrietta.
