Henrietta May Martz Gross
Phoenix, Arizona - Henrietta Gross, beloved wife and mother, passed away at home on September 28, 2019, at the age of 86 with her son by her side. She was the only child to Guy Earl Martz and Mary "Phyllis" Eaton (Martz). She married (Ernest) Ray Gross, whom she was married to for 61 years until his passing on November 25, 2015. They married on September 3, 1954, at Catalina Methodist Church in Tucson, Arizona. Her son Kurt Gross survives her. Henrietta, known as "Hank," to close friends, was born in Tucson, Arizona, on July 14, 1933, at the Stork's Nest maternity ward. She spent her first years in Benson, Arizona. She moved to Tucson in second grade (1941), where she began making friendships that lasted her lifetime. Henrietta graduated from the University of Arizona with a teaching degree. She taught third and fourth grade for thirteen years until she and her husband welcomed their newborn son in July of 1967. Henrietta lived in Oregon from 1968 to 1998, Scottsdale, Arizona, from 1999 to 2003, and Green Valley, Arizona, from 2003 until 2015. With the passing of her husband, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona, to be with her son.
Service and celebration-of-life will be on Friday, November 8, 2019.
The service is from 2:30 PM - 3:00 PM.

Ernest Ray Gross

Green Valley, Arizona – Ray Gross passed away on November 25, 2015, at Green Valley Hospital with his wife and son by his side. His wife, Henrietta Gross (Martz); son, Kurt Gross; sister, Elaine Coons (Gross); sister-in-law, Dolores Gross, and many nieces and nephews survive him. Born November 1, 1929, Ray graduated from high school and his freshman year of college at Kemper Military School in Boonville, MO. He then moved to Tucson, AZ to be closer to his sister, Elaine, where he then enlisted in the US Army in 1948. Ray became an airborne paratrooper and combat medic. He served four years, fought for his country in the Korean War, and was honorably discharged by the army as a Sergeant First Class on May 17, 1952. Ray returned to Tucson, AZ, where he graduated with a business degree from the University of Arizona in 1956. During this time, he met his wife of 61 years and married at the Catalina Methodist Church on September 3, 1954. They both welcomed their newborn son in July of 1967. Ray had a lifelong career in the lumber business that took him and his family away to Eugene, OR for many years and eventually, the family returned to Arizona. He loved his family and held them most dear. He was most proud of serving and fighting for his country in the Regular Army. Ray Gross was laid to rest at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, AZ. Group Military Funeral Honors will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at shelter 2.
