Henry Edward "Hank" Bowman was born Nov. 7, 1926 in Peoples, Ky., the son of Skid and Fannie Lakes Bowman. On May 3, 1946 he was united in marriage to Cleo Brummett Hayden and they later divorced. On Oct. 15, 1974 he married Vanessa Sizemore who preceded him in death on Oct. 26, 2008.He is survived by five children, James R. Bowman and wife, Nancy, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Charlotte Lusk, of Knoxville, Tenn., J. Ivan Hatton, of London, Allen Hatton, of DeLand, Fla., and Vickie Underwood and husband, Steve, of Carey, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Lisa Fontanarosa and husband, Chad, Tony Stegg, J. Christopher Bowman and wife, Bonnie, Douglas Bowman and wife, Stephanie, Brook Maldonado and husband, Jeff, Chesleigh Underwood, and Reva Brown and husband, Rob; five great-grandchildren, Nicholas Fontanarosa, Connor Bowman, Olivia Maldonado and Janessa Dugger and Camden Dugger; plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to mourn his passing.In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Goldie Harness and a brother, Sheridan Bowman, and a son, Rusty Hatton.Mr. Bowman joined the U.S. Navy in May 1944 and received his basic training including amphibious training at Great Lakes, Ill. He was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II where he earned five battle stars include, two Philippine Liberation stars, a World War II Victory Medal, an American Area Campaign Medal and a Asiatic Pacific Area Medal. He served six months at Hiroshima, Japan during the immediate post occupation and clean-up.Following an honorable discharge from the service, he became an evangelist minister and pastured several churches including Mount Assembly at Milford, Ohio, Hazelfork, at Gray, Ky., and finally Old Path Holiness Church at Corbin. He previously worked for White Baking Company, Grippo Potato Chips, Dr. Pepper, Marathon Gas Company and retired as a refrigeration technician from Flav-o-Rich Dairy in London. He was an avid fisherman and loved camping and gardening. He had a passion for all animals, including his many dogs and cats.Mr. Bowman departed this life on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at his residence, being 83 years, 1 month, and 3 days of age.Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at Bowling Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Helton officiating.Burial followed in the Owsley Cemetery in London. Visitation was from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at the funeral home.Pallbearers were Chris and Doug Bowman, Chad Fontanarosa, David and Kenneth Casteel and Steve Underwood.Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge in Lexington, Ky., or to Old Path Holiness Church in Corbin.
