Hank, I don’t think I’ve ever heard LAPD stories funnier than ones involving you! I found out about your untimely passing some time ago, but more recently than most. I regret no selling you my 1973 fire engine red Cadillac; if anyone fit it better than me, it was You! RIP Brother! Heaven is Rockin Now!!

Hank my sweet Hank ~ I met Hank doing off duty work in Downtown L.A. We connected immediately. We laughed all the time and just had a great time at work. He made coming to work so much fun. I've thought about you for years and was very sad to know you passed so long ago. I was actually looking you up to try and reconnect and found out the sad news. You left a piece of yourself with me and I will never forget you and the time we spent together. You are special Hank and loved by many. I am sad that you are no longer with us. Truly sad!!! We lost a great guy too soon. Bye Hank

I know this is way late, but I lost touch with Hank and just heard about his passing. I met Hank in 2006 at Freek Racing, and knew we'd get along the day we met. He was a cool dude who treated people right. Loved hearing his funny cop stories. In the short years I knew him his offers of help or assistance got to the point where I felt bad telling him no thanks so often. Hank had so many friends and people who respected him you knew he was some one you wanted to know and I am glad I did. I find it hard to believe that a guy who was larger than life is gone. Peace my brother.

I haven't seen you in 25 years, but finding out you passed away just yesterday was just as heart wrenching as if I'd just seen your smiling face just 25 days ago. I've thought of you often and always with a grin. Rest in peace Hank, you sure touched many, and it was an honor to know you.

Henry,

I recently discovered your untimely passing. Wasn't it just yesterday we were having daily bb gun wars in the canyons and you always picking the guy with a pellet gun to be on your team. You said "Snipers" are visionary! Let's not forget the circus game of lining up an unlikely kid to stand against the garage door as we threw darts around out stretched arms and legs. Remember when you stuck me in the arm? You laughed, but it was a kind laugh!

Your life always come to mind when I watch that iconic movie "Stand By Me". Although the "Big Lebrowski" would be equal to your creative humor.

I was telling my kids "Luke 7" and "Michaela 11" storys about you. You have quite a following with the chants "Henry, Henry, Henry". Hearing them say "Daddy tell us more storys about him".

I reminded them of how you worked at some Italian joint on Foothill Blvd. I think that is where you earned the money to buy some horse you wanted to call "Linda" after your lifelong love.

Not sure if you ever told her about some of that money coming from us climbing the billboard above that joint. Remember, we caught pigeons as they roosted? Threw them into a pillow case and sold them for 50 cents each. Then we ran hysterically down Foothill as you proclaimed "I'm getting date money now". Never got my cut fyi!

Now after all these years I track you down. My billionaire friend needed a personal body guard who understands the word of "Loyalty" with special forces and a police background. I told him, you would fit in well to Vegas and maybe he could Sherpa my camera equipment around the world as I shoot. He was sold through the storys I shared.

Amazing that after all these years we see light in new ways. Reading the mirror of your Mom, daughters, Linda and friends you truly lived! Something tells me there are many now "Standing By You". Your friend, Jeff

Never Give Up. Those were the last words Hank spoke to me. I will always consider myself the luckiest most blessed man that ever lived because I met Hank. When we first met I was homeless, going thru a divorce and angry as hell. Hank bought me some beef tacos and then proceeded to fill my heart with laughter and hope. Then he gave me a job and stood by my side thru the darkest days of my life. I never had a family that I had ever been able to call my own, - til you my friend. And even thoigh I was just a Navy Puke you still found it in your heart to forgive me. Your leadership and perpetual loving, spirit have truly set the new standard for the entire world to follow. I love you Brother. You saved me by showing me that actions speak louder than words. You took me into your house and trusted me with your family. You gave me lessons how to raise my little children with Love and guidance, but far more important you gave me Family. Thanks BROTHER and I swear Ill never give up!!!

I was out of the country when I heard about Hank (Henry) my brother in Blue. I worked Central Patrol with Hank back in the mid 1980's on Morning and Mid PM's, we always had a ball and he kept everyone laughing. A Copper's Cop who will be missed. Glen Younger

I just read (11) pages of condolences about Henry J "Hank" Cousine and like many others they made me laugh out loud and think of my own memories and cry at the thought of not having my FRIEND around any more.

In this world there is only a very few that are thought of by other cop's as "A Cop's Cop" but that was Hank. Chief Gates was another and and that is why the Chief called Hank his friend. The Chief knew that Hank was a Great LAPD Cop.

The world is a better place to anyone who knew Hank and had him in their lives.

God must of needed someone up there to bring happiness to all the boys in blue that have left us.

My life was touched and better having known you.

Your friend,

Hank -

I had to read all of these posts over and over again. It is actually therapeutic in a way; it is immensely sad to come to the realization that you are gone. But reading all of these messages just brings back all of the good memories over the past 25 + years. The times in 77th, when we got to work together and then again in Southwest. I find myself actually laughing when I think of some of the stuff you have "uttered".

I remember one night, Maurene and I decided to go have a romantic night out for our anniversary. This was around '89 or '90. We went to a beachside resort behind the Orange curtain and were enjoying cocktails. It was a quiet, mellow night. All of a sudden, at the height of romance (the sun was dipping into the Pacific) there arose a loud ruckus at the bar....you, your brother and an entourage had arrived. You spotted Maurene and I, and that was the end of the romance, and the beginning of the party. We joked and laughed, and cock-tailed the rest of the evening, with the result that all of us took a swim, in our clothes, at around midnight as best as I can recall. Suffice it to say, Maurene and I still talk about it. You made us feel very special that night, albeit a bit hungover the next morning, but we were smiling!

Hank, you were a cops, cop and a special human being and you shall be missed.

August 3, 2012

Babe,

I'll never forget the first day that we met; you were 11 years old, one year younger, and three inches shorter than I was. I remember the first time we kissed, and you had to stand on the curb so you would be taller than I was. I remember the horse you bought with the money from your paper route, that you wanted to name Linda, and how mad your mom was because she wanted you to name it after her. And how I told you the only thing more stupid than a horse named Linda, was a horse named, Mom! Everyone loved you, even then, as a boy-- the way you could make everyone laugh, and feel so special. Eight years later we married, and you had become a man, the man who gave me three wonderful children, (who when they're being a pain in my neck, I give you 100% credit for.) And even though, after 25 years, we parted ways, I'm thankful that we always remained friends. You are a part of me. You were a part of my life as a child, as a man, and you will forever be in my heart. I promise, I'll take good care of our daughters, our granddaughter's, and our future grandchildren, not yet born. Sleep well, my Henry, and know that you will missed.

Love Always,

titi

August 2, 2012

Henry you had a personality larger than life. Everyone who met you loved you. The women adored you, but I think the greater loss will be felt by all the male relationships you made in this life; if not just by the numbers alone. You had enough charisma to draw anyone to the cool aid, but there was no evil in you. All children would flock to you like a magnet, every plain looking grocery checker felt beautiful and special when you left her line. The facade of your tough guy image melted when you would show the special place the homeless had in your heart. When you would take the second to acknowledge them and add something to their day. Funny could not possibly explain you, you could make us laugh so hard we could not breath and leave us wondering why laughing so hard could make you cry. No one could tell a story quite like you. That is what should be on your headstone. You were a STORY TELLER!!!! Unfortunately with your "living life to the fullest", you made a few stories of your own, but nothing ever seemed to phase your energy or enthusiasm for life. There is a huge hole in this world now where you once stood. Your life ended on a good chapter. God took you while you were still on top. You will forever be remembered, young, strong, funny, optimistic and generous. Thanks for letting us know you were always there for us if we needed. Thanks for having such a big heart and letting so many in it. Energy that was once in this world is gone now. Your heart has broken, but some of ours has died along with it.

Hey Hank, true story. When I was a new sergeant at Southwest Division, I attended a training day followed by a steak fry. During the steak fry, I saw a sizeable group of people standing around a guy who seemed to be doing all the talking. I inched closer and listened to what this person was saying. In no time, I was laughing with everyone else so I finally asked the people next to me, "who is that?" They responded, "that's Hank Cousine." Well, I was lucky to get to know Hank somewhat better at Southwest. We had a few enjoyable conversations and I still remember some of his classic quotes. LAPD was lucky to have you Hank. Those of us at Southwest will never forget you. Your spirit and enthusiasm will be truly missed.

August 2, 2012

Hank, was faithful to his friends. His greeting was... "Hey, Man, what are you doing?". The last I spoke to Hank, was at Camp Pendelton about two years ago. He was on his Harley and with the grin on his face that we all know. We spoked about getting together. Unfortunately, that never happened. Hank, to know you are not with us, is truly a loss for us all, but I pray that you are at true peace and know that your legacy will continue through your loved ones and the many friends you left behind and though you left the profession, you will always be part of it, because we who remain have always remembered you. You, live through the many stories that we all share about you. To one of the 44... Sleep well my friend.

Hank we never worked together but I would see you from time to time on various details. I heard the Hank stories from Southwest Division and how you kept everyone on their toes. I did have the pleasure of seeing you flying down Martin Luther King Bl on your way to work. You pulled up next to me while I was driving my black and white, smiled at me with that big smile and said " Im just goin to work bro." All I could do was laugh and shake my head. I know you are smiling at all of your brothers in blue saying "Im just goin to work brother." RSP

Hank....you made working Parker Center desk a blast. You lived every day to the fullest and are one of the true "good" cops who were out there fighting evil and bad guys 24/7.

I met Hank in the late eighties and we worked together a few times. Yes it was fun and memorable. Not many remember the great job you did on the Donohue Show after being put on an infamous list of officers. (Post Rodney King) You made alot of EAGLES proud that day and you said some things that needed to be said. The DOERS and EAGLES will never forget you.

It has been many years since I heard your name or saw you. But even today the sound of your name makes me laugh. You were a crazy, hilarious man with a good heart. Although admittedly, when I would hear your name at the LAPD, and particularly when I worked in Chief Gate's office, I would cringe a little wondering what you had done "this time." You know that Chief Gates liked you a lot and always had your back, as did I. Thank you for all the laughs and I know heaven will be rumbling with all of the laughter and ruckus you will be causing up there. From now on, when I hear thunder, I will think of you. You are missed.
