Groton - Henry Elisha Haley, 93, of 425 Drozdyk Drive, Groton, died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Harrington Court in Colchester.

He was born in Center Groton, Conn. on Feb. 24, 1918 the son of John R. and Bertha Mae (Young) Haley.

Mr Haley worked at Pfizer and retired in 1976. He was a sheriff for over 20 years and was a member of S.A.R.

Mr. Haley was active in Groton Town politics, is a former Groton Town Councilor and also had served as the Groton Democratic Town Chairman. He is a member of the Groton Kiwanis Club where he had been an officer for many years, the Center Groton Fire Department. He is an Army veteran of World War II and served in the Intelligence Service in Italy.

After the passing of his first wife, Nanette Richards Graham in 1975, he married Mabel Graham who survives him.

In addition to his wife Mabel; he is surved by two sons, Thomas Haley and his wife, Madeleine, of North Franklin and James Haley of Mystic; a daughter, Mary Ann Haley of Egremont, Mass.; two step-sons, Bruce Graham of Mansfield and John Graham of Texas. He was pre-deceased by a step-daughter, Cheryl Graham; grandchildren, Jeanne Evanson and her husband, Eric, of Windham, Jessica and Seth Jordan of Egremont, Mass., Mary Bellamy and her husband, Beau, of Alaska; and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Evenson and his extended family of five step grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Sirota and her husband, David, of New York City.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., Groton, CT. Burial is private. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to Mystic River Residential Homes, 14 Godfrey St., Mystic, CT 06355.

Windham Falls will miss its "mayor". I always looked forward to Henry trying to give me a piece of candy on my way through the lobby as I went to visit my mother. Thoughts and prayers.
