Henry Ho-Wong Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 9, 2019.
Henry Solomon Ho-Wong, resident of San Francisco passed away on August 9th, 2019. He is survived by his wife Lolan, daughter Camille (Joe Formentos), and son, Ian. He was born in San Francisco on April 1, 1948 to Henry P.L. Yee & Jane Chan. He was the oldest of five children. He attended Washington Irving, Francisco Jr High, Galileo High, City College and San Diego State. He decided to be a minister and attended San Francisco Theological Seminary. His first call was at United Church of Christ in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was embraced by the congregation as well as Lolan's numerous relatives in Honolulu. Lolan's relatives teasingly asked why had no tan, that he was pale enough to be sharkbait. Because he and Lolan wanted to travel before starting a family, the two of them went to several countries with adventures. One memorable moment was missing the train from Penang to KL. Henry hired a taxi and gave the order to catch the train. The taxi ride was frightening and exhilarating at the same time, similar to a roller coaster. They made it and the surprised conductor said he didn't see Henry & Lolan two stops earlier. The decade of 1980 was the start of having a family and enjoying the 49ers win a Super Bowl.  Camille was born in 1981 and Ian in 1984. Henry was extremely proud of being a father and with Lolan enjoyed raising Camille & Ian. They all went to the zoo, CA Academy of Sciences, Asian Art Museum and the SF Museum of Modern Art numerous times. When Camille & Ian got older, they made road trips to Disneyland and Seattle/Vancouver B.C. Eventually the family traveled to Hawaii, Hong Kong, Paris and London. When Henry was not too busy raising his children and volunteering at the church, he loved to read, listening to music (especially to Hawaiian music), cook and bake, try to solve Sodoku puzzles on the first try and collect owls. At one point, he jogged and entered many 5k races. Later, he walked about 45 minutes daily. Prior to his illness, Henry was an active, engaged brother to his siblings, Sylvia (Curtis Hansen), Theresa, Rick (pre-deceased) and Karen (Terry Lee), as well as uncle to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In all, he was a gracious friend and a wonderful individual. He will be missed by so many of those whose lives he touched. We love you. Rest in Peace.
