Henry Ingram Obituary
Henry Ingram Sr. was born to Alice (McClain) Ingram and Nate Ingram on Dec. 5, 1921 in Dever eaux, Ga.
He was reared by his grandparents, Henry and Georgeanne Macklin (McClain) in Devereaux. In 1942, he left Devereaux and set his sights on going up North to Akron to stay with his mother, Alice Bellamy and stepfather, Dennis Bellamy. In March 1945, he met Alistine Wilson who came from Milton, Fla. in 1944. By June 30, 1945, they were engaged and married. Henry Ingram Sr. was known at Wooster Avenue Temple Church as "Deacon Ingram." He served at his post as deacon for many decades until his illness. At the church, he was also a Sunday School teacher and president of the Young People's Willing Workers for many years.
He was also active with the East Akron Community with the Fuller Street Block Club and Feeding the Hungry Program until the mid 1990's. He was faithful to his church...faithful to his family and faithful to his community. He retired from the Ford Motor Company in 1987. He departed this life on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002.
Henry was preceded in death by his wife of over 56 years, Alistine Ingram; parents, Alice Bellamy and Nate Ingram; grandparents, Henry and Georgeanne Macklin; he leaves to mourn his passing brothers, Johnny (Paulette) Ingram of Buffa lo, N.Y., Gabriel Ingram of Sparta, Ga.; seven children, Patrick (Frances) Tompkins Sr. of Waukegan, Ill., Henry (Teri) Ingram Jr. of Stockton, Calif., Joyce Ingram of Akron, Ohio, James (Debbie) Ingram of Los Angeles, Calif., Janice (Mike) Shine of Pensacola, Fla., Charles David (Karen) Ingram of Akron, Phillip (Rebecca) Ingram of Reseda, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; special daughter, Diane J. LeGree; five great-grand children; one great-great-grandson; he will be missed and mourned by many relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Tuesday at St. Ashworth's Temple, Supt. Louis C. Walker officiating, Elder Richard Bradford eulogizing. Interment Greenlawn Cem etery. Friends may call at the church from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 2926 Denise Dr., Copley, OH 44321. (Stewart & Calhoun, 535-1543.)
