Ex-Toluca resident was 100
TOLUCA - Mildred Craig Bathgate Smith, 100, a resident of the Flanagan Rehabilitation and Health Care Center (formerly Beulah Land) for the last 10 years, formerly of Toluca, died at 10:56 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at the health care center.
Mildred was born near Toluca on Aug. 9, 1914, the daughter of Fred and Jessie Lichlyter Craig. She graduated from Toluca High School. She married William Bathgate on Oct. 17, 1936, in Toluca. He passed away on June 10, 1966.
They owned and operated a Gamble Store in Monticello. Upon his death, she returned to Toluca and worked at the Toluca Garment for many years.
She later married Halsted Smith on May 23, 1970. He passed away on Jan. 27, 1971.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; one brother, Gaylord Craig; and two sisters, Edith McCully and Agnes Stites.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the Antioch Christian Church in Toluca and the Loyal Woman's Circle at the church.
Mildred enjoyed traveling and was an excellent seamstress and did beautiful crocheting.
She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved to watch college basketball.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2015, at Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home in Toluca, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Idell officiating. Burial will follow in Bell Plain Baptist Cemetery in Pattonsburg. Visitation will be for one hour prior to services Sunday at the memorial home.
Memorials may be made to the Antioch Christian Church in Toluca or to Eastern Marshall County EMS.
