Henry Gilmer Satterwhite

Henry Gilmer Satterwhite Henry Gilmer Satterwhite, 92, formerly of Sunset Beach, N.C., died on July 3, 2011. Born in Bristol, Va., on Aug. 22, 1918, he was a son of Henry Dewitt Satterwhite and Janie Gilmer Satterwhite. Mr. Satterwhite was a proud veteran of World War II and worked at Armour and Company for 47 years. Mr. Satterwhite was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary Elizabeth Kimrey Satterwhite; and by a brother, Howard Lewis Satterwhite. He is survived by three children: H.D. Satterwhite and his wife, Mary Lynn, of Bristol, Tenn., Jane Woodard of Shallotte, N.C., and Michael Lewis Satterwhite and his wife, Barbara, of Memphis, Tenn.; and a sister, Rebecca McComas. He had six grandchildren, Emily Satterwhite of Blacksburg, Va., Lauren Warren of Tampa, Fla., Lewis Satterwhite of Fairway, Kan., Kimrey Rhinehardt of Chapel Hill, N.C., Rebecca Woodard of New York, N.Y., and Lindsey Hedgepeth of Memphis, Tenn.; and six great-grandchildren, Samantha, Tyler, Ella, Lawton, Maryn, and Whit. A memorial service celebrating Mr. Satterwhite's life will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wellmont Hospice House, 280 Steeles Rd., Bristol, TN 37620.
