Henry Wilks Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 18, 2024.
Henry Wilks, aged 73, of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on September 5, 2024. Born in Mobile on March 23, 1951, to the late Johhny and Alfreda Wilks, Henry was a beacon of joy and energy throughout his life.

Henry attended Augusta Evans' SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT and found his calling early as an entrepreneur. He was notably involved with the Mobile Mardi Gras Associations and worked at The Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Mobile, where he was known for his dedication and vibrant spirit.

A devout member of Mt. Zion #2 Baptist Church in Prichard, AL, Henry's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He cherished his time as an usher and celebrated his faith by participating actively in church activities.

Henry's athletic prowess was most memorable in his participation in the Special Olympics. A highlight of his athletic career was the 1979 World-Wide International Special Olympic event in Brockport, New York, where he won both gold and silver medals in long-distance running, proudly representing Alabama.

Beyond his professional and athletic accomplishments, Henry was a man of many interests. He was an avid dancer, singer, and enjoyed observing life around him, always with a smile. His presence at any gathering ensured lively dance floors and joyous hearts.

Henry is survived by a loving family, including his aunt, Ms. Mary Lett, brother Melvin C. Wade, and sister-in-law Rev. Dr. Ruby McMillian-Wade, Th.D. He also leaves behind a cherished circle of nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death.

Visitation for Henry will be held at Rice-Reese Funeral Home on Saturday, September 21st, 2024, from 11:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M., followed by the Homegoing Celebration Services at the same location. Rice-Reese Funeral Home is assisting the family during this time.
