Herbert Beem Obituary
Surviving are his wife, Florence Beem; son, Gary Beem; daughters, Jackie (Robert) Bohringer and Christine (Jeff) Bunker; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Beem; mother, Viva Mae (Harold) White; sister, Norine (Reg) Willemsen.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes East Chapel. The family will receive friends from 11:00am until the hour of service.

We are so sorry for your loss personally and to the community .. know my daughter Shannon Wambaugh met Herb at DeWitt Band... and he helped tweek her intrustument when it needed pads and repairing .. which only knowing him thru my daughter I could tell he was a great man and loved life... may you Rest in peace with beautiful music . Mr. Beem was my 5th grade band teacher at Red Cedar Elementary School. I think we signed up for band because it was held at the same time as our math instruction (weird schedule). Needless to say.. we were avoiding math and weren't great musicians. He was so patient and nice. I remember just a handful of my teachers from that school, and Mr. Beem is one of them. I am sorry for your loss.

Florence and family,
My sympathy to alll of you at the loss of Herb. He was a gentleman with a sense of humor and he and Florence were a a great couple to know. I am sorry to hear of his passing. May God bless you all as he now holds Herb in his loving care.

I'm so sorry to hear that Herb has passed away. My sincere condolences to the family. I played trumpet (and sometimes piano and sang) in the late Pete Vanderwaals' band in what seemed hundreds of gigs with Herb and Gary for a good 22 years. But the history goes back farther for me than the late 1980's. I had played for Pete's Band while in college at MSU once in a great while, and there was always the Beem Team then. And in 1972, I played piano for a small jazz band Herb formed with Gary and his sister and some other musicians from Everett and Sexton High Schools. Around 1977 on, in college I would often see Herb at MSU Music buildings picking up or delivering something,.maybe for Marshall Music. I always enjoyed making Herb laugh, or watching Gary play a prank on him once in a while at those gigs. Like slowing down the tempo at the end of Harlem Nocturne while Herb held out this already extremely long note on his solo. We had a big laugh and so did Herb as he turned around at looked at Gary. Always remember the good stuff, forget the other stuff. It will bring you peace.

Florence, My sympathy to you and your family. I only have one memory of Herb when he copied a lot of photos onto a tape for a lot of the Vander Honing cousins after a get together at Uncle Len's farm. 40 plus years? I believe you are 1st cousin to me by Aunt Ida or Aunt Beulah. Please know I remember most of you and have a few fond memories of reunions. Sincerely sent, Ruth Stray (Jack and Esther Vander Honing)
