Max Childs of Eugene, Oregon, passed away from cancer, on April 25, 2018 at the age of 83. Max was surrounded by his family, in his home, at the time of his death.

Max was born August 28, 1934 in Albany, Oregon to Myron Keith and June May Childs. Max was an only child, and spent much of his time with aunts, uncles, and cousins. He loved to attend the annual family reunion, with his kids and grandkids in tow. Friends and family remained a top priority throughout his lifetime.

Max was married to Donna Joann Bailey in 1954. They had two children, Mark and Tammy Childs. Max was later married to Patricia Jean Kendall, they divorced in 1992. Patricia precedes Max in death.

Max was a lifelong employee in the newspaper business. He was employed at the Democrat Herald in Albany, from 1954-1961, and at the Register Guard from 1961-1997. After several decades as the Circulation Manager for the Register Guard, he retired in September of 1997. He celebrated with a retirement party, surrounded by co-workers, friends, and family.

Max was an avid fisherman, with a love for anything outdoors. He spent much of his life hunting birds, deer, elk and antelope. To try and count the number of fish caught by this great outdoorsman would be an impossible feat. He spent several months each year, residing in his trailer at C&D Dock, and could be found out on the river in his fishing boat bright and early each morning. Even as he battled colon cancer, Max managed to make his annual trip. Max also had a passion for old cars, Ford's in particular. Anyone who knew Max, also knew they would never find him behind the wheel of anything other than a Ford. Max won several awards for his beautiful 1951 Ford, which he restored with his son, Mark. They had recently begun doing a few additional restorations, and worked on it together until his health would no longer permit him to be out in his shop.

Max is survived by his son, Mark Childs, his daughter Tammy Childs-Crossland, and daughter in law Cindi Childs. He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren. Grandson Travis Crossland and his wife, Dana, granddaughter Lacey Crossland, grandson Zach Childs and his wife Emily, and grandson Alex Childs. Max had three great-grandchildren, Amelia, Remey, and Keaton. Max was surrounded by so much love and admiration.
