Herbert Dymond Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 28 to Jun. 30, 2011.
DYMOND, Herbert Joseph February 24, 1951 - June 25, 2011 With his beloved wife at his side, Herb passed away peacefully after a seventeen month battle with cholangiocarcinoma. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Cheryl (nee Mauchline); his daughters Michelle (Michael) Sushelnitsky and Jennifer (Kevin) Sadler; his son Chad (girlfriend Deborah Jorgenson); two grandchildren Katelyn Sadler and Alex Sushelnitsky; his sisters Kay (George) Escott, June (Gordon) Follett and Patricia Dymond-Pynn. He was predeceased by his parents George and Veronica Dymond, and his brothers Austin, Clarence and Cyril. Herb will be dearly missed by his family in Newfoundland and his Mauchline family in Calgary as well as numerous friends whose lives he touched. Herb was born and raised in St. John's, Newfoundland. After a brief stop in Cambridge, Ontario, he moved to Calgary in 1975. It was here that he met and married his soulmate Cheryl in 1977. Herb was a man of many hats, working as an oil scout for Esso Resources in the late 1970's and early 1980's and owning H. Dymond Siding for five years. In 1990, at the age of thirty-nine, Herb attended SAIT and received his journeyman ticket in appliance repair. After several years working for others he opened Lo-Cost Appliance where his reputation for honesty and hard work enabled him to develop lasting relationships with many clients. Herb ended his career working with his son at Boyce Heating. Herb was an avid outdoorsman. He cherished camping, hiking and fishing in Kananaskis country with family and friends. His remarkable skill at identifying birds and plants showed his love for the natural world. More than anything else Herb will be fondly remembered for his frankness (which often made for interesting conversation and many laughs), his sense of humor, and his absolute devotion to friends and family. Herb's family is grateful to Dr. S. Lupichuk and Tracy Huizer, his palliative nurse Doreen McKinnon, doctors and staff at FMC Unit 47 and Foothills Country Hospice for the loving care he received in his final days. They would also like to thank the staff at the Rockyview Emergency Department for their ongoing support. A time of Visitation will be held at PIERSON'S Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 - 17 Avenue S.E.) on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service to be held at the same location on Thursday, June 30, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Foothills Country Hospice (PO Box 274, Okotoks, Alberta, T1S 1A5) or the Friends of Kananaskis (Suite No. 201, 800 Railway Avenue, Canmore, Alberta, T1W 1P1). Messages of condolence may be forwarded to the family at www.piersons.ca .
