Herbert August Ermer

Mr. Herbert August Ermer (Herb), 91, of Burbank died peacefully Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 6:30 AM at his home. Born in Kingsley, Iowa, Herb moved to Glendale, CA in 1950 after serving as a Torpedo Bomber Radio/Radar Operator in the Navy (1942-1946), and completing his Electrical Engineering Degree at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Herb worked in the Advanced Development Programs area (the "Skunk Works") at Lockheed California Company in Burbank from 1950 1990 where he was a key part of the F-104, SR-71, L-1011, and the F-117A aircraft projects, amongst others. In 1954, he met Helen Hughes Ermer and they were wed in September 1955 at Immaculate Heart Church in Glendale. Shortly thereafter in 1956, they moved to Burbank, CA where they raised four children Susan, Jim, John, and Jean, and formed lifelong friendships.Herb was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family, his church (St. Francis Xavier Parish in Burbank), his community, and served them all selflessly during his lifetime. He is survived by daughter Susan Ermer, husband John Statler, granddaughter Shannon, of Redwood City, CA; son Jim Ermer, wife Eden Bethune, granddaughters Leone and Rose of Burbank, CA; son John Ermer, wife Gail Ermer, and granddaughters Margot and Noel of Sherman Oaks, CA; and daughter Jean Ermer, husband John Camacho, and grandsons Mitchell and Brett of Burbank, CA. Herb is also survived by his siblings and their spouses: Gertrude Ermer of Rockwell, IA; Jane Ermer of Huntington Beach, CA; Clarence and Jeanette Ermer of Rockwell, IA; Adolph (Floyd) and Marilyn Ermer of Naperville, IL; Robert and Marilyn Ermer of Rockwell, IA; Eunice and Jack Bamrick of Dubuque, IA; & James and Carol Ermer of York, NE. A Rosary and Visitation will be held Saturday December 5th, 2015 from 11:00 to 12:30 PM. Immediately after, a Celebration of Life and Catholic Mass will be conducted at 12:45 PM at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills, CA.
