As Editor, I will be using the information regarding Pete Hoover's passing in the memorial section for the American Red Cross Southern California Retiree Newsletter for April 2010 edition.
Many times Pete and his wife assisted me while I was trying to help disaster victims while I was working for Red Cross. So sorry to hear of his passing.

Our heartfelt condolences to Pete's family. Though we never had the chance to talk on the air, we were able to exchange QSL's in connection with our special event station at our radio club; the 80th anniversary of the ARINC, Inc. and the 44th anniversary of the ARINC ARC who was granted permission to use the call sign of Pete's father, W3ZH.

Sincerely;

Kurt Fritsch WA3TOY

Jennifer and I send you our condolences on Pete's passing. It was always a joy work with Pete at Volunteers in Technical Assistance (VITA). Pete brought so much to the VITASAT program, championing the use of accessible technology in the developing world.

After he and I left VITA, "playing ham radio" and our regular correspondence was an ongoing treat, as was getting together with you and Pete when you came to Washington.

It goes without saying that he will be missed by all.

Ham Radio has lost a giant. I remember Pete's positive attitude and successful efforts to improve Ham Radio for all of us. It was a pleasure working with him on the ARRL Foundation Board.

dearest meredith et al,
Pete and his presence are close in memory to me, as you and he were my life-savers on Kauai, Thanksgiving Day after Hurricane Iwa, when you appeared to support me, the locals and the government in kick-starting the island again. As an ARC Board member, it was always a delight to have you arrive--as only you could--at the Nat'l Convention wherever it was, to provide guidance and leadership for the rest of us. We are grateful for you for sharing Pete with us. Thanks you and know you have our thoughts and prayers at this special time.
warmly, annieb & greg johnson

Dear Meredith and Family:

My thoughts and love are with you.

Pete's passing is a great loss to all of you, but to the Greater Community, as well. He was a brilliant man, and I greatly admired his profound intelligence and problem solving skills.

I know you will miss him, dearly, but fill your thoughts and life with your wonderful memories of him..he will never be far from you.
Fondly,
Pat Snyder
